I've noticed almost all opt-outs in college and pro are football players, but it seems like most basketball players play despite being in closer contact with people.

I don't recall a single player quitting during our 1998 season when we were 6th in the country and finished the season 4-7. Guys like Kevin Faulk and Anthony McFarland had nothing left to prove or to play for but came out every weekend and played their asses off, even while getting blasted by Arkansas the last game of the season.

They were still fighting for bowl eligibility just before the last game of the season. So for a while, given the general expectations at that time, that was the ultimate fall back plan for competing every week.

O couldn’t even make it through training camp. At least Gilbert suited up in games. Like I said, I expect him to thrive once he gets to a program not in absolute chaos. Just too much talent.

a week or 2 into practice...how is that anywhere near the same as a starter quitting with 2 games left?

Not sure that a quitter isn't a quitter from the definition of some on this board. And Orgeron was only 100 miles from home when he quit.

Just need to pull a page out of the Bama playbook, get his family a job and a house in BR (like the Tua family), and homesickness issue is solved.

Cracks me up most of you are trashing the player when you should be trashing the coach who is the one responsible for that player leaving. Why would any player stick round for this shite show?

To the players this is their job and career. In the real world if you work for a shite show company you change companies.

Stop with all the purple and gold rah rah bullshite and look at it from the players point of view for once in your miserable existences.

I consider a guy quitting on his team while being a starter with only 2 games left much worse than a guy who never played a down and probably wouldn't have been on the depth chart. It really isn't comparable. Why not just say you hammy is tight and use injury to miss final 2 games rather than quitting?

So you don't give the company time to turn things around.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when 98% of this board is babying a fricking freshman quitting on his team before the god damn season is even over. Wtf has happened to this place lmfao

He wasn't the first and won't be the last. At what point is this quitting an indictment on the HC? After all he quit too.

Say what you want about Gilbert, but he doesn’t opt out if this program isn’t a fricking dumpster fire right now. Shame on Orgeron for letting it get this way.

Outside of Moss in Brady’s offense we have no history of making tight ends big time receivers. He could read the writing on the wall. Kid didn’t quit. Kid made a business decision just like O did when he kept E as coordinator. Now it’s biting him.

The players have a part in the product on the field. Stop treating them like it's all on the coaches for the crap performance on the field.

ome of you guys can't see past your purple and gold glasses. He's quitting LSU. Either O is a lying a-hole about him saying he was tired or whatever or that's the excuse he gave O.

Someone can be mentally and physically soft. I understood that what O said may not be true. Quitting on your team with the season still ongoing is still considered soft, is it not? Whether it’s internal or external, it’s weak on his part.

Kid had 200 fewer yards receiving in 7 fewer games played as a true freshman than Moss did all of last year. He isn't leaving because he wasn't getting the ball. It may have been a business decision to get off what appears to be a sinking ship, but he was seeing plenty of targets as a true freshman TE

how so? how many other starters have quit recently other than Marshall who had a really good reason and most of his teammates would probably agree with him to go get that money
