During the game last night, someone pointed out that the 2018 class was killing us. LSU signed 25 recruits in 2018. 3 were transfers and 3 came from JUCO. Currently there are only 9 left of the team and only 4 who see meaningful action.

Transfer: Cole Tracy: kicker. Had one year of eligibility. Went undrafted

Terrace Marshall: 5 Star #13 overall # 3 Wr . Great talent. Opted out after the first 7 games of 2020. Projected 1st round pick

Kelvin Joseph 4 star # 42 overall # 5 Safety. Transferred after freshman season

Ja’Marr Chase 4 star #84 overall #15 Wr. A homerun recruit. Had such a great sophomore season, he opted out of 2020 and is projected to be a 1st round draft pick.

Davin Cotton 4 star # 284 overall # 23 DT; Transferred to Southern

Zach Sheffer 3 star #632 overall # 28 TE: Transferred after freshman season.

Damien Lewis: 3 star # 60 overall # 2 OG (JUCO): Drafted by Seahawks in the 3rd round of 2020 draft. Started at LG in 2019.

Tae Provens: 3 star # 769 overall # 63 RB: Entered transfer portal after freshmen season after being accused of rape.

Still on the team 9

Jarell Cherry: 4 star #198 overall # 12 WDE: Still listed on the roster as a DE. Has gained 50 pounds of muscle, but has been very little playing time.

Chasen Hines: 4 star #243 overall # 21 DT: transitioned to OG. He is currently the starting Right Guard

Micah Baskerville 4 star # 277 overall # 14 ILB. Currently starting at LB.

Dare Rosenthal 4 star # 305 overall # 24 DT: Moved to OT. Started at LT before getting suspended. Is currently back with the team playing LT.

The unmitigated disaster of the 18 class is magnified by the quality talent we lost after last season. Everyone is quick to point out how many players we lost but it wouldn’t be as bad if the 18 class wasn’t such a mess. That lands directly on the staff and marginalizes the “we lost so much” argument. At this level you can’t blow it like that.

This season reminds me of DiNardo’s final season. By mid point, LSU had suffered very high attrition numbers.

Things are going to get very very bad at LSU in the next few seasons.

Kenan Jones would be the starting safety now if he hadn’t pouted about the position move and left. Missed out on a championship and will have no chance at the NFL now. Good decision Kenan.

The general rule among coaches is if 25% of recruits contribute in some form or fashion, it's considered a good class. Research shows that a majority of the recruits will fail to live up to expectations, never contribute at all or transfer out. It's a crap shoot when it comes to recruiting!
