I thought opt out was just for this year due to covid
I think the original intent was that it was meant to describe players that chose to sit out the year because of Covid, with the intention of coming back the next season and without losing a year of eligibility.
Now it’s just the new catchphrase for leaving, forgoing, quitting, etc. note that I’m not begrudging anyone for their decisions, but just to say “opting out” is always on the table for any of these guys. I.e Greedy Williams opted out of the bowl game. They just called it sitting out instead.

Guys like Stingley who are sure fire first rounders aren’t sticking around and risking injury.

Stingley will not sit out next season. If he did, its a massive mistake. Next year will be a typical season. Many other corners can rise above him on a draft board. If he comes and plays to potential, he wins the thorpe easily and is a top 10 pick.
One thing I did pick up in a previous interview was that his dad was non committal on if he would play. What he eluded to was that Derek would likely play because he had to, but they had not looked that far ahead.
Sting's tape, to me, isn't befitting a sure fire lock down corner and top 10 pick right now. He was beaten in some games and other than last week has not had a good showing in 2020 (injuries aside)
Players won't be declaring for the draft a year in advance in the future. Too many hungry players playing. Take Chase for instance. He was a no doubt top WR on everyone's boards prior to this year. Before the injury, many had Waddle, and now even Smith ahead of or on the same level as Chase. Potential loss of millions if he slide even 5-6 spots
The two that will regret sitting out will be Shelvin and Vincent imo

Will be completely stunned if he does. Not bashing, just saying he won't play.
100%. I am not bashing him or any other players. I don't think he plays next year but I hope he does! No inside info or anything, just my observation / opinion. GEAUX!

We could start by boycotting the NFL!

I dunno why. He hasn't done shite this year and is gonna get shite on by Smith Saturday
Posted on 12/1/20 at 9:57 am to GamerGod
He could lose a lot of skill by sitting out a year.
Iron sharpens iron. The NFL knows that too.

Not every player is stingley or chase.
Chase had the best season for a wide receiver and stingley was a freshmen All-American
Just like marshall couldn't sit out.
He had first round talent but he had to go out and show it this year.

There are few families that know the impact of on-field football injuries more than the Stingleys.
I have a lot issues with people quitting midseason, but if a player informs his coaches that he isn't coming back well in advance, I have no problem with that.

I always expected him to sit out next year like Chase did. It’s like monkey see monkey do with these kids now. From now on it will be like a status symbol for elite college players to sit out their junior years. It will be the cool thing to do. I’m only in my mid 30’s but it’s like night and day how different kids are now from when I was that age.

Well taken care of legally man gtfo! That’s a joke right? That COA is shite water compared to the amount that they generate for the school. I’ve had several kids attend LSU and it very few that are well taken care of as u say.

You already tried that. Looks alive and well to me.

They know what the rules are going in. They have the choice to go a different route.

Then why did they go there?

Maybe. If anyone could understand the dangers of any single play, it'd be the Stingley's. I hope he doesn't skip next season but I wouldn't be surprised if he did

15 years ago, players didn't even think about opting out to avoid injury. You played because you owe that to your teammates. It meant something to put on your school's colors. Those players had the same opportunity to make life changing money 15 years ago. Speaks to the me first mentality kids have now.

how many players "opted out" last year?
why are some of y'all acting like this is a normal year and projecting what is happening this year to the future?
it makes no sense

.....and Tigers fans will come out of the woodwork to slobber over Stingley and what he meant to the program.......

True or False? Stingley paid more in high school tuition than college tuition.
True or False. Stingley paid more for high school lunches than he pays for three high quality meals a day at LSU.
True or False. In high school Stingley had a basic weight room and training facility, while at LSU he has professional level strength and training facilities.
True or False. Playing football at LSU has given Stingley the opportunity to show pro scouts his ability to actually play the game of football, and not just see how quick he can run through cones.
True or False. If Stingley just shows up to class, and gives the very minimum of effort in the classroom he has free tutors that will keep him eligible.
True or False. Just by playing football at LSU, Stingley will now have opportunities at future employment in Louisiana based off of name recognition.
