Your scummy side made the rules.

Let’s play.

I happen to think cancel culture and pc is a blight on society. I don't think Heard should be fired for private matters(although she's a terrible actress) and I don't think Gina Carano should be fired for tweets for Trump. Both are ridiculous. But you can't see gradients of thought or nuance.

If you want nuance perhaps that has a chance to be considered when the Amber's and the Johnny's are both held responsible for bad behaviors. The first step to nuance would be to reject people who automatically defend one or the other or who don't embrace the greater likelihood of both parties being somewhat responsible.

Both would be ridiculous if either had actually lost a job, but it turns out that getting yelled at on Twitter isn't something that affects reality.

Cancel culture refers to people losing jobs or status based on being yelled at on Twitter or other social media platforms, but mostly Twitter. Gina Carano got yelled at on Twitter and has kept, and will keep, her job. Amber Heard has been yelled at on Twitter and has kept her job. Johnny Depp got yelled at on Twitter, but also lost a court case, lost one job that he still got paid a full salary for, and kept his other jobs.

Who has lost meaningful revenue due to "cancel culture"? Harvey Weinstein lost a lot due to going to prison, which is a bit bigger than Twitter anger. Kevin Spacey hasn't been hired since his allegations were dropped, and he might be the only one to be truly impacted, but his issues didn't come from Twitter anger. They came from over a dozen allegations and Netflix admitting they had ignored complaints of his behavior.

So, which celebrities have been screwed over by "cancel culture"? James Gunn, for a minute. But that wasn't a pc thing; that was a dirtbag right-wing thing, and it backfired. JK Rowling would call herself a victim of cancel culture, but there's no evidence so far that she's lost any money or revenue streams. The novel she released three months after she was "canceled" received the same middling-positive reviews as her previous Galbraith novels, and instantly became the best selling entry in that series. She seems to be doing fine.

Any good pc examples?
