Apple TV, Not HBO, Will film Masters of the Air starting March of 2021.

“ The new 10-episode series is titled Masters of the Air and is based on the book of that name by Donald L. Miller. The story will revolve around the American “bomber boys” that flew missions over Germany in WWII. The British and American bombing campaign was the longest military campaign in WWII and the only one fought inside of Germany until the end of the war when Allied ground forces finally crossed the German border. The book was based on interviews, oral histories and archives in America, Britain, and Germany.”

Article was published Oct 24,2020. I really hope it happens cause I love Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Hasn't this been set to film for like 10 years now?

Got a chance to see the Memphis Belle on display some years back. Always been fascinated with the air campaign of WW2.

After all the money HBO made off of Band of Brothers and The Pacific, why did they choose to not produce Masters of the Air?

I think I've seen a few shows produced by Spielberg on Apple TV. Was it just a case of Spielberg solidifying his corporate partnership with Apple, or did HBO just not see anything worth pursuing with Masters of the Air?

My great uncle (mother's side) was a bombardier aboard a B-17 in the Eighth Air Force during World War II. He flew multiple missions over Germany. I can't wait for this to come out.

Former head of HBO Richard Plepler now heads Apple+. It's thought that he quit at HBO b/c of AT&T immediately coming in and meddling w/how he ran things so I wouldn't be surprised if he is making moves to stick it to them.

Been waiting a while for this. My grandfather was bombardier on Liberators out of N Africa and Italy with over 45 missions including Ploesti. He would never talk about it. He said he did his job and got to go home.

AT&T did the exact same thing with DirecTV and ruined a formerly great company. HBO is slowly dying. I haven't watched anything in that network since GoT ended.

And I won't watch anything on it probably ever again. Their subscription service will keep them afloat, but they're original programming is bassically irrelevant now. I'm still also pissed they killed their boxing coverage.

The likes of ESPN and DAZN and Showtime simply cannot hold a candle to HBO Boxing.

It does seem like they have been dragging their feet for years on this project.

Don't want to seem like a wet blanket, but I often wonder if they really have a quality project on their hands or something that takes the blemishes of THE PACIFIC and amplifies them 1000x?

I mean, I'm sure the story of the Army Air Force in World War II *can* be done properly, but the question is, based on the teleplays that have been written does Amblin/Playtone/Apple TV possess a quality program on their hands, or do they possess something unworkable and bloated?

I’m skeptical about this finally being filmed. It has to be close to 10 years this miniseries has been talked about. HBO did a fantastic job with Band of Brothers and The pacific. I hope Apple TV doesn’t botch this one.

My dad was a top turret gunner on a B-17 in WWII and was seriously wounded by a 20mm bullet to his leg. He also told some wicked stories about flack.

I just hope this is not a “woke” version of WWII.

This arena of war is extremely underrepresented in film. I enjoyed Catch-22 for the most part even though it was a very much different take on war than the usual war series/movie. Hopefully this goes forward and they can adequately capture the unique horror of flying a sortie during WW2.

I see that production is still moving along at a blazing pace.
