Bama game not going to be played, too much risk for Alabama

We already know LSU has nothing to play for, but Alabama has everything to lose by playing this game. First, this game is "supposedly" going to happen Dec. 19 at the end of a long season when the players' bodies are worn down and much more susceptible to suffer an injury. One injury to a key player and their entire postseason hopes could be gone.
Secondly, why would Alabama give up a week of rest before the SEC championship game to play a game that means nothing?
Thirdly, why would Alabama risk the chance of their players getting the virus when they could stay home and recoup/rehab and monitor their players closely to ensure they are healthy and ready to go against Florida?
Lastly, why would any LSU fan want to watch Alabama humiliate our team in front of a national audience? Alabama is so far better than we are that it's almost not even fair to play them. I know some will say they should play because of money, but Alabama is going to lose a lot more money should they suffer a key injury or catch the virus and derail their hopes for an SEC title and a possible national title.

I think a distinct possibility exists that if a game was postponed that it will not be rescheduled unless it has a determination on the winner of the East/West.
At the rate the games are getting cancelled this week, we could easily end up playing only 2 or 3 more games.
Hell even the NFL just put a contingency plan in place to expand the playoffs (money grab for sure), but it also gives them flexibility.

They aren't moving the SECCG game to the day after Christmas. They could move our Ole Miss or Arkansas game to that day and have the Alabama game on the day one of those had been scheduled.

I agree and I don't think they move the championship game because you're talking about rebooking hotel rooms for another weekend (if you can find any available), finding stadium workers for another weekend, fans rearranging their schedules and finding new flights, not to mention it's in the heart of the Christmas season where fans already have plans to be with family.

By December no one will be playing football anywhere

I guess we could wait until we have a better team than them, before we play Alabama again.

I'll file this with "there isn't going to be a season in 2020. Just accept it" that I read all summer.

The SEC is going to protect Alabama. Whatever is best for them is what will happen. If it means cancelling our game, it’s done.

That's a great point! Of course, Alabama is the SEC's best hope of winning a NC this year, but I have to admit Florida is looking very impressive too!

If the SEC decides it’s in the best interest of Bama not to play, it won’t happen. But if they determine Bama needs it, heaven and earth will be moved to make it happen.

I’d love to play Bama right before the SEC championship game just to wear them out prior to that game. RTWFU!

I agree. I would love to derail Alabama's NC hopes, but I don't think this year's team is capable of even wearing Alabama down. We are such at a low level that it would be demoralizing to watch Alabama dismantle LSU in Tiger Stadium. They would wear us out before halftime, not to mention leading by 5 TDs minimum.
Secondly, the NCAA is trying to get the four best teams into the playoff and risking getting covid or a key injury would destroy their plan. Alabama is the NCAA's Golden Child and it's too big of risk to allow them to play LSU for a game that means nothing.

They’d rest their starters beginning in the 3rd q. Not sure we’d wear out Baton Rouge catholic.

They'll be pulling starters in the 2nd quarter.

You're right! Long runs and wide open pass plays for 50 or more yards can get tiring. Look how tired MSU and Mizzou were at the end of the game!

If the bama Auburn game gets played that could signal the end of the football season. I think the game is scheduled for 11/28.
I don't think the SEC will call of the season until that game has been played.

I agree. Although it's a huge rivalry game, I think the SEC and the NCAA are going to play it as safe as possible and eliminate all end of the season games that mean absolutely nothing.
That's if we even get to the end of the season with the virus going crazy and the regular flu about to start wrecking its havoc.

Can't get fired for going 2-8 if you only play 5 games.
