Question as we are well below the 85 (or self imposed 81) can we sign players in portals to close gap. The players from our team that are in portal, do they count to overall number until they sign somewhere? When can other team portal players be signed?

We cannot take any more portals. 25 limit.

20 players left for draft multiple left for transfer this year and in the past 2-3 years. 4+ opt outs.

There’s a limit of 25 signed a year. For four years, that would be 100, but departures and processing occur to keep that under 85. We have 68 while Bama probably has 85. Signing 25 and a few departures will get us back to 81 for next year.

Grey shirts dont have scholarships, I believe. Walk-ons dont count. Hypothetically, we could get Korey Foreman as a walk on (but no actual recruit would do that)

If your 68 is accounting for Ika and the recent opt outs, we have 14 seniors and Marshall and Ingram that may leave(impossible to say with LSU's track record).

Even in 2020 where any senior can come back, if all seniors leave +2 Juniors that realistically should, we would sign 25 and have 77 going into next year. So we can only ask 4 seniors to come back.

It won't happen like that but that's how you get back to 85 or in LSU's case, 81

Well you need 22 to start and you need 22 to practice against. That equals 44 minus 68 equals 24 for 3rd string.

You'll get more natural attrition. No way we have 5 running backs next year all being sophomores or below.

Yea you would never get a player to do this because they would have to be a walk on and pay their own way through school for at least a year before they get a scholarship to avoid them counting towards the 25 signees.

If a player like Foreman did something like that best bet the NCAA is coming snoop because something is obviously fishy.

Bama has had 4 stars greyshirt.

The next few years will be short, even with 25 per cycle. The roster will be youth heavy. People like TJ and Johnson aren't going to stick around and sit behind someone in the same class. The only way to truly balance out the roster (class-wise) is with JUCOs and transfers.

This is why it would be a miracle for the NCAA to go along with the self-imposed sanctions. We probably wouldn't even notice 4 scholarships reduction over the next two years.

We might want to add a bowl ban for this year, because I am not too interested in watching a 2, 3 or 4 win LSU team play in the Birmingham Bowl.

The biggest benefit for playing in a bowl game now is the added practice time that a team is alloted.

You're right watching a 5 win (maybe) LSU is not on the top of my list of fun things to do.

We need to fill up with O line grad transfers to add bodies.

How? We wasted whatever scholarships we had.

When I would say we need to save a couple I'd get downvoted.
Stop taking players just to take them at the end of a cycle, especially with who transfers these days
