I get where Madison's coming from, however. Kevin is in love with his family, and would do anything for them, but let's be honest - if Madison hadn't gotten pregnant, there's zero chance they would have anything together, save an awkward evening next time they were in the same room at Kate's house.
Yeah, but Kevin has had the greatest character arc on the show by far. It's been a journey from selfishness to wanting a family. I live with the conviction that love is primarily an action taken and the feelings are what follow. Those twins anchored Kevin in place to give love the opportunity to grow. That's how I would have written it but I know that is kind of the old fashioned view of duty before romance.

Sure but I think what they’ll explore is Kevin went from selfish to wanting a family, but he did it for the same reasons he formerly drank alcohol, and that he needs to be right with himself and his issues to truly open up and love someone and not just settle for the mom of his kids.
For Madison, with the flashbacks we saw that she grew up thinking she never deserved love and she finally realized that she doesn’t have to just accept good enough, and that she deserves someone who truly loves her too.

But Kevin's whole story arc is that he wants to be like Jack. He wants the great love story and is the same hopeless romantic as Jack. IMHO, he MUST have a grand, sweep him off his feet love story. He has that story with Sophie already. They obviously still care. However, he has to become the man that earns her trust again. There were too many Sophie references over time...the Princess Bride reference, the earn the ring story, the how Kevin saw himself in the future (doesn't see a future with Madison), Good Will Hunting...he's driving to hope to win back his girlfriend. Every single thing says Sophie, not Madison.
Kevin deserves his grand love story. I will not believe he and Madison unless something happens and I see him totally fall head over heels in love with her. That's the story Kevin deserves...one like Jack and Rebecca!
I do believe that love is an action you choose to continue each and every day and a commitment you make over and over. BUT, I think it's very hard to do that if you never, ever had the romantic love and attraction. I can't imagine living through all that day to day crap with little kids, etc without having that attraction deep down that holds you and will always be there. I always felt like sometimes I didn't like my hubby very much, but that deep love and attraction from the beginning never went away.
