Good tweet from SECStatCat via Worsham

Smart move on the coaches part. RPOs can be a QBs best friend.

It's almost like if you hand the ball off with one less person in the box you will run for more yards. Why is Brennan's % so low?

I think a few heads are about to explode from some of the more moronic Sunday threads.

Goes to show even more that half of this board doesn’t know what an RPO is.
I’ve seen it posted over and over that Ensminger wasn’t calling RPO’s like we did last year. Low and behold we’ve been running them at a higher rate.

What does RPO percentage mean? RPO means run pass option, so the QB can hand it off, or throw to usually just one guy that it’s designed to go to if he decides to pass.

We weren’t that RPO heavy last year with Burrow because he is Burrow and he can do everything well.
I thjnk We felt we could keep that train going with Brennan but really wanted to take some of the decision making off of Finley’s shoulders and just let him read and react.
RPOs do somewhat limit you taking long shots downfield. It’s hard for an OL not to get 3+ yards downfield while run blocking for 3-4 second.

The percentage of plays in which an RPO is called.
Ensminger made it very easy for Finley. You have one read in an RPO. Ensminger put on a clinic on how to ease your young Qb into the game.

People confuse it with the read option, which we haven’t really done much with Brennan or if so his “read” is to hand it off every time. Just for educational purposes a read option is where the QB can hand it off or keep himself.

It also helps the run game because after a few successful passes the defender your putting in conflict will start to abandon their run assignment for the pass.

Or just regular play action out of the shotgun.

I mean I get Confusing it with a PA plays (gotta watch the OL)
The issue is people don’t understand that’s you don’t have to be a running QB to run an RPO effectively, and they CONSTANTLY bring that up.

The same strategy should do well against Auburn. They're going to play us with 3 down linemen, a couple LBs, and a bunch of DBs like they did Ole Miss. Our running game should eat. It will come down to field position, turnovers, and our defense.

Easily the most annoying thing surrounding the RPO

Auburn is going to have some issues.
The loved time drop 8 last year and that worked really well when one of the 3 you bring is Brown.

Did someone give you a lobotomy?

They didn't want him to get hurt, and it happened on a scramble.

Please explain how an RPO makes it more likely for a qb to get hurt? Considering the ball has to be out in no more than 2 seconds to make sure the linemen aren’t downfield.
You’re not scrambling out of an RPO. It’s one read. If the LB plays the run you throw the slant. If the LB fills the passing lane you hand the ball off.
Please for the love of god read up on what an RPO is.
Brennan’s percentage is lower because he has an absolutely beautiful deep ball and we would like to use it.
Finley’s is higher because he’s a 19 year old qb and we wanted him to have the easiest reads possible.
