Raising minimum wage

Do dems think the business owner will take the loss to pay employees 15 dollars an hour?
That will not happen. They will pass it on to the consumer. They are going to keep Their profit. Also are people that currently make 30-50+ an hour not expected to want more money if the minimum wage Raises? Do they not have pride in their work and think they should get paid the same differential they did before the minimum wage was increased. That’s bs. The cost of living will go through the roof.

Like Trump said, leave it up to the states.

Where are there people doing work for less that $15/hour, who are clearly worth that (or more), but just being cheated by greedy bosses?

Because they give them self’s raises.

I’m not an Econ major but there is no way companies don’t go out of business if they raise the minimum wage. Either that or, like you said, it gets passed along to the consumers.
That’ll be real sustainable after Biden eliminates the oil & gas industry.

Reality doesn’t factor into this to any of them is the real issue. They think since “they get theirs” it will suddenly fix the real problems such as lack of a proper budget. The target audience of the $15/hr talking point is the same type to get a raise and increase their spending not savings.

No way. Biden said there was no proof that this will happen

All you have to do is look at Seattle, they did this and many businesses closed due to the raise.
From a MSNBC article "Meanwhile, the Seattle law has been life changing for workers like Martin Johnson, who lobbied for higher pay with the advocacy group Working Washington. He works three minimum wage jobs — as a temporary cook on game days at the city’s stadiums, as a janitor at Costco on the overnight shift and as a handyman in his own small business. The raise brought with it more dignity for workers and boosted morale, he said."

Here’s my two cents on this: I think minimum wage should go up. Not to $15, but to $10 as a nationwide standard, and increase it incrementally with the cost of living. $7.25 is low, very low.

They need to blame the Federal Reserve Bank for inflating the dollar all these decades. The Fed is the problem.

All of the low income workers will be the first ones bitching that their mcdouble is $8 now instead of $2

I feel like libs want to raise the minimum wage so they just take more in taxes.

If blue states weren't so expensive due to far left economic policies, perhaps they wouldn't have to raise the minimum wage for the lower class to keep up.

quote:Forget that group (although I'm in it); consider the $18-20/hr folks. Usually the way this works out, those guys are the ones that put in time at a relatively modest job, built up some seniority, and suddenly they find they're being yanked back to near minimum wage. All that time put in, and now you're right back near the bottom.
Also are people that currently make 30-50+ an hour not expected to want more money if the minimum wage Raises?
This is why raising minimal wage doesn't work. You need a tiered system, somewhere to move up into. If you raise that but don't bump the rest, you frick everyone else over. If you do raise everything, then it's devalued and cost of living rises.

Capitalism does a pretty decent job at determining worth.

Maybe I'm being too simplistic about this but to me it's like if a business has 10 employees. They pay those 10 employees $10 an hour because the most they can afford for payroll is $100. If minimum wage is bumped to $15 an hour is this business going to say oh gosh well I guess we have to pay it? No they're going to lay off 3 employees to get back to their $100 payroll cap. Worst case production goes down, profit goes down, and eventually the whole business goes down.

I'll just say many small businesses closed in Seattle when a mandatory minimum wage of $15 was mandated there. That's a fact.

what people don't realize, raising minimum wage actually makes EVERYBODY poorer- even the people that go from 7.25 to 15. sure, their paycheck doubles, but every single thing that you have to buy also has a significant cost increase. if you have to pay a dishwasher 15 bucks an hour, every single menu item will have a huge price increase, for example.
happy meal is 4 bucks now. it will be 8 bucks. econ 1001
then, as said, the people making 20 bucks an hour now won't get a raise and then they were doing OK, are now damn near poverty level.
raising minimum wage is fricking stupid
