These are some Ponchy Tiger posts about this kid. He might be right, in which case that would suck for the Tigers, but we'd all throw some respect his way for accurate player evals.

But hopefully he's very wrong!

quote:

I have been deemed as a hater because I do not praise this kid. I would like nothing more than to have a kid from my hometown and my alma mater QB LSU on Saturday’s. But I have to be honest when I watch him play I just don’t see it. Other than being big and having a good arm, I don’t see the fascination. I don’t think he will sign a major D-1 scholarship come 2020.

In response to Finley saying he welcomes the competition from Max Johnson on twitter:
quote:

Finley isn’t signing with LSU

quote:

Here is my problem with him. He doesn't appear to be a good team leader. When the team runs out at the beginning of the game he is always the last one dragging behind. Always by himself never in a group. In warm ups when the team huddles up and is jumping around getting fired up, he is always off to the side by himself. When he comes to the side lines he tends be usually away from most of the team

quote:

When all is said and done I don't think Finley will end up signing with LSU. I think he is headed for a mid major.

On Clemson possibly being interested in Finley:
quote:

Hahaha, this is hilarious.

Then Bama offered him as well...
quote:

He looks great in these camps but is widely inaccurate in real games.

quote:

I have have went to most of his games the last 2 years. The team is not good but that zero to do with his lack of accuracy. It has zero to with him having no mobility. The guy is slow at the high school level what do you think that will be at the college level? I hope he improves and makes it. I would be thrilled to have one of our Ponchatoula kids leading the Tigers on Saturdays but I just can't see it happening.

quote:

All I am saying is that I have watched may many games of his. He is not accurate and has slow feet.

TJ was a 50% passer in HS w/ 22 ints thrown as a varsity starter. That's concerning. He seemed to do well in camp settings but when I spoke to people who saw him play they all came away unimpressed.

I'm sure he's gotten better with college coaching and there is no doubting his size and arm strength.

I agree with the overall tone of this thread and hated the amount of criticism Finley took on here, but this seems premature. Him possibly starting on Saturday doesn't necessarily mean that Ponchy and the others were wrong.

Look I hope he lights it up but I saw the kid play in 2 games. He wasn’t the best player on the field in either of the games...

You should have saved this thread for when TJ tosses for 300+.

Because what if he has a bad game. Folks would be ...ahem...rehashing 5”this thread.

I like most on here do not have enough info to judge this decision of Finley starting. I was under the impression that Max was the more polished qb out of these 2. With that said why is he not starting? Did the coaching staff decide that running the ball might be a better chance for winning? That would make sense of Finley starting. He is bigger. This tells me that we probably will not be throwing the ball much. jmo

It’s crazy how people feel about TJ. He played his senior season with not some of the best players. Was an Elite 11 QB that says a lot right there within itself. He got the size and arm strength to make all the throws. Highly recruited despite the numbers most say he’s lacking. But, if I recall when he scored 9 TD’s in a game y’all was raving about his performance. If a kid can play a kid can play that’s it.

All of this is probably the reason he was a 3 star

Ponchy's opinion is based on 15+ games that he saw Finley play in high school. I'm sure that is more than most have seen him play.

He is banned at the moment, but he told me that he wants nothing more than for Finley to succeed and do his hometown proud. He just stated his thoughts and observations on why it might not happen.

He may end up being a good QB but nobody here should have much expectation from him this weekend. In fact, you should expect an arse reaming on offense. There's no way either of these guys in a pandemic year their first year in the program have a grasp on this offense. LSU is absolutely fricked against SC. Better hope the defense woke up.

LSU is in rebuild mode right now and it shouldn't be in this position even after losing as much as we did. O needs to do a better job in recruiting especially Oline. That 2018 class is absolutely killing us right now. We're again in a position where we're not going to add the depth we need on Oline even if we land the big names. Is that like the 4th year in a row? if we lose the big names on the Oline it would be catastrophic. We have too much attrition there and guys not panning out on top of not recruiting enough every class. That position group is in shambles depth wise.

Not going to matter who's behind center if we keep pushing out there what we have every Saturday. All our QBs will end up like Myles Brennan or worse. They're just not that good this year. They don't open holes up in the run game at all.

Ponchy deserves to be ripped. Dude acted like he had a personal vendetta against Finley and crossed the line talking about a high school kid multiple times. Pretty sure he posted worse than you found, and the leadership stuff alone is cringe worthy.

I kept saying that Ponchy Tiger was being hard on the kid. He needs a big serving of crow this morning.
And I am from Ponchatoula. I was angry everytime he attacke4d the kid.

I stopped at "I have went to many of his games".

That's the language of an unintelligent person.
