re: Harbaugh...this can't be good for recruiting, think he's looking to get back to the NFL?

I didn't either, I really thought he'd turn Mich around in a hurry, and I thought with the Shea Patterson kid he found a QB. No, hasn't happened and I don't know if it ever will unless he can find that really good QB, but he may very well head back to the NFL.

He’s gonna be a disaster if he tries to go back to the NFL

harbaugh 2 main problems
1) came to mich at same time osu became an omnipresent golden-years football godzilla.
2) suffers from schembechleritis (same disease lloyd carr, les miles, etc have). An obsession with doing things "bo's way": running the ball and winning games 17-10.
I am happy harbaugh has turned michigan from awful to good/above avg. But unless he changes his style, there will be no playoffs or titles.

Yeah, it's not like Michigan didn't improve under Harbaugh or became terrible.
It's just that Ohio State just got so much better than everyone else in the Big10 (like Bama in the SEC) apart from a few Penn State and Michigan State seasons.
And as for Bo's way...yeah Michigan's offense just hasn't kept up with the times...even with Luck at Stanford it was a very heavy ball control run offense with play-action pass off it.

quote:The Niners' mediocrity over the last 15 years has had less to do with player personnel matters and can be more consistently tied to its terrible post-Mariucci head coaches
He might not be a long term solution, but he has proven he can turn around a suffering franchise with a terrible front office.
Erickson
Nolan
Singletary
Harbaugh
Tomsula
Kelly
Shanahan
5 of those 7 were TERRIBLE
Singletary is one of the worst NFL head coaches I've ever seen and he went 18-22 with basically the same team Harbaugh inherited. Most of the elements needed for a franchise turnaround were already in place before he arrived.
None of the likely open jobs are going to have a roster anywhere near as talented as the one he inherited with the Niners.

quote:why? Because he had success with Andrew luck? Think about that for a minute. He had one of the best qb prospects Of the past 20 years and he happened stay until he graduated. Don’t think harbough has much to do with that, he just happened to have greatness fall in his lap
Michigan's QB play being so shitty after Harbaugh spent years proving that he knew what he was doing with QBs at USD, Stanford, and San Francisco is staggering. I really didn't expect this at all.

And Andrew Luck reportedly couldn’t wait to get away from Harbaugh

He made Josh Johnson into a draftable prospect at USD and won with both Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco. Kaepernick did absolutely nothing in his career without Harbaugh coaching.

Speaking of Gase and the Jets, I think the Jets would be a job Harbaugh would be very interested in if they get Trevor Lawrence.
Leave it to the jets to frick that up.

yeah, his work with QB's has been really good, getting them to believe in themselves and their abilities. Alex Smith was headed in the wrong direction until he turned him around, but he just hasn't been able to do it in Michigan.

49er passing game rank by season:
2011: 29th
2012: 23rd

49er defense rank by season (pts/yards)
2011: 2nd/4th
2012: 2nd/3rd
2013: 3rd/5th
2014: 10th/5th

"Great story," began Jack Harbaugh. "After the first day of the draft, (I) called Jim, and I said, 'Jim, who's the quarterback you're gonna take in the second round?' Promised I wouldn't say anything to anyone. "And he said, 'I'm gonna take Colin Kaepernick. I not only think that he's the best quarterback in the draft, I think he's the very best player in the draft.' So I think that speaks volumes for his talent."

Might be that his insurance policy is, well just that. A damn life insurance policy.

Speaking of rumors of bad relationships.
quote:
The relationship between Harbaugh and Sherman goes back over a decade at Stanford when Harbaugh tried to kick Sherman off the team while Sherman was dealing with a torn ligament in his knee because he couldn’t play. Sherman was asked if he was moving past his feud with Harbaugh: “I wanted to put him out of the league. And once I got that done, I had no animosity toward the 49ers organization.
To add to the story, per 49ers CEO Jed York, Sherman was infamously removed from the 49ers’ draft board by Harbaugh, even though he was ranked higher than other CB prospects. York relayed that to Sherman recently during his tenure with San Francisco.

NFL is just about your job and worrying about losing it. Coaches don't have to be your pal or friend (see Belichick) and it really doesn't matter if they like you.
But College is about a connection with players...and it seems Harbaugh's personality or Aspergers rubs kids the wrong way...they just don't seem to respond to him.
Stanford it might've worked because they recruit self-motivated kids who might respond to quirky intellect...Stanford got the smart try-hard guys who would play for anyone...it's a different story with coddled 5-stars.

This is actually good news if you’re a Michigan fan. They should make a push for Fickell or Matt Campbell.
You know where Fickell is from, played and coached, right? No amount in a Brinks truck is gonna make Fickell go to Michigan. If he keeps showing great things at Cinci he will get better job offers than has-been Michigan.

2003-2010:
SF did not have winning season in the 8 years prior to Harbaugh.
2011-2014:
Harbaugh spent 4 years in SF. They had 3 winning seasons, two division titles, a SB appearance, and his worst season was 8-8.
Harbaugh won 70% of his games.
2015-2018:
SF had 4 consecutive losing seasons, and won a total of 17 games.
This.
Harbaugh doesn’t seem to enjoy the recruiting aspect of college football. He’ll be back in the NFL, and he absolutely knows his x’s and o’s.
