The Padres didn't trade a single one of their top 10 prospects for Clevinge
That's not true, for one thing, and two players no longer qualify as "prospects" because of service time (but are still young) for another, and for those who aren't in their top ten, it's worth noting that the Padres are currently regarded as having the top farm system in the majors. Giving up top 20 prospects is steep, when it's a lot of them.
When you give up 4 or 5 guys for one player (who isn't exactly the elite pitcher some are making him out to be) it sets you back, unless you have the finances to offset those losses in the free agent market in the years to come.

Uhhh yeah it is.
They did however trade one of their top prospects for Austin Nola on the same day.

I just wanna go ahead and put on record:
I do not believe we sign either Ozuna or Bauer.
I’d love to be wrong. Cheap arse Liberty will use loss of revenues due to COVID as the scapegoat

Agreed. Hope we’re both wrong.

Then AA needs to be fired.
There is literally no defense for letting Ozuna walk.

Tex was also a rental. Clevinger was not.
Yes, which made that deal even worse. Clevinger was still to expensive for the Braves. The guy has a very short track record, as well. I want a more proven commodity for that price. The Braves don't spend long term money. We all know that. That means they've got to hang on to their prospects, unless they're getting somebody who's really awesome, and has multiple years remaining on his contract.
I would like to think we could have landed someone better than Tommy Milone, however.
There are probably going to be a lot of short deals handed out this off season, with all the money teams lost, so maybe the Braves can grab someone like Bauer for a 1 year deal, and with Soroka returning, we'd certainly have no excuses to come up short again.

AA has nothing to do with the budget he is given. If the budget is not slashed and Ozuna walks that’s a problem. But my guess is it will be down to $120M or so. In that case I think you have to try and get creative.

The Padres traded Joey Cantillo (#12) Gabriel Arias (#16) and Owen Miller (#25) from their system for Clevinger.
Baseball America had Arias as their number 9 prospect, and you are leaving out Josh Naylor and Cal Quantrill, two former first round picks with a lot of potential, who no longer qualify as "prospects".
And reading about Cantillo and looking at his minor league stats, he has a chance to be a stud. Again, in a stacked farm system, you don't sneeze at anyone inside their top 30. The Braves had the same situation a couple of years ago, before everyone started graduating to the majors or occasionally being traded.
Giving up a ton of those at once usually is not a good idea. But you see it more often from the organizations who can make a play on top free agents. Like the Padres did with Hosmer and Machado.

Rosenthal was saying the other day that this offseason will be the most even, in terms of a spending standpoint, for all teams because of COVID.
I'm sorry, you can try and couch it all you want, but it will be an abject failure if this team lets Ozuna walk and the brunt of that failure will fall on the shoulders of Liberty and AA.

You're right, you're arguing with yourself. Because you sure aren't arguing with logic.

Whatever you say, champ.

It’s really hard to predict what’s going to happen $ wise. Look at the arb projections MLBTR is putting out. No one even knows how that’s going to be handled. I think somebody will pay Ozuna and the AAV will end up being too big of a cut out of the cash available to be able to swallow it. I have nothing against Ozuna but I have very little faith in Braves ownership to prioritize competing so I think they are going to have to look elsewhere to fill some holes.

You can't fill that hole without spending the money... he was that important.
We let him walk and we're back to NLDS exits.

I'm giving you facts. You're giving me an emotionally charged rant about what you want. Don't get mad at me because the Braves ownership doesn't pay up and puts us in this situation.

Me posting the Padres prospect list was emotion? Are you on the spectrum?
I literally gave you facts that the Padres didn't give up much for Clevinger.
