Should have given Brady the fat contract.

I still don't understand why we backed the Brinks truck up to his house when NO ONE else was vying for his services.

Brady was gone anyway.
That is the prevalent talking point. But I don't buy it.

He was making 214,000 a year at Youngstown State btw.
Actually, through February of 2019 he was making $1.8 million annually as Nebraska was paying him $150k per month in buyout money through 2/2019 less the $21k he received from YSU. So essentially he was getting paid $128,009 a month not to coach at Nebraska plus his salary.
He did not need the money, hence it took $$$$$$$$$$$$ to get him to accept the job.
ETA: Bo Pelini's Nebraska Buyout

Despite winning more NCs than any other team besides Bama since the turn of the century, we've had the worst most idiotic ADs in all of college football according to the experts on this board. Woodward is just in a long line of idiot ADs.

Odd. we gave the guy 10 years of his previous salary per year. That should have been incentive enough to lure him away. So now he has nearly 30 times his previous salary guaranteed. That makes no sense.
If you buying a smaller company you offer the owner their annual earnings times a set number of years but certainly not 30 years.

So why would Pelini give a frick if he is shite canned or not he is set for retirement
Because he has pride? Also, if he fails, his wealth will be seriously curtailed. What is his buyout? Five or six million? That might sound like a lot, but it's really not.

Woodward is a good AD, but he's the fricking worst in the business at contracts.
So he is bad at the main part of his job? What an interesting take.

I think we are stuck with Bo. This fricking stinks

During a normal year, I agree. Not when LSU’s Athletic department is dealing with Covid shite

So he’s good but he’s the worst in the business at one of the most important roles of his job. Got it.
Y’all are just so happy to not have Alleva that you act like Woodward is some Godsend

If he wasn’t, I would be shocked. He’s gonna be a NFL HC next year or a year after at the latest. Not sure why he would be wasting his time here.

No. Woodward did not negotiate a good contract.
Orgeron did an exceptional job with everything in 2019 that he didn't even think to have a backup plan in case Pelini was garbage. There were no negotiations and he fell into the typical LSU fan thought process of Ed can do whatever he wants because 2019 was so great. Bama fans don't even do that with Nick Saban.

Most likely.
But he definitely wasn’t gonna stick around for 1 mill per year and holding Steve’s spit cup.
If Steve would have retired, which he should have, and you offered Brady 2 mill per year, it would have given him a lot more to think about.

He should NOT oversee contacts.
His strategy appears to be offer so much money that they can’t say no. The issue is that he has to be right or the school is fricked.

To get Pelini to come, they had to entice him. That required assurances he'd get paid no matter what.
Woodward is honestly overrated by many on here. Did he not give Jimbo that contract at A&M or did people already forget.

Right...

"Just waiting for the Board of Trustees meeting"

How much was Nebraska still paying?
Did his Nebraska contract have a pay out cut off if he is hired at a power 5 school, but not if he works at a lower level? A lot of contracts have clauses like that.
