Edith didn't have the burden of being the eldest sister and the one being looked to for leadership once dad would be gone. Mary had to be cold and calculating. If Matthew had survived, she would have been a much different character. She is still the stabilizing force trying to reinvent and keep alive a dying way of life.

humble brag, but I've met Joanne Froggat and she is damn cute. Met some members of the cast and Julian Fellowes at a fundraiser one year. Mr. Bates was a blast and look completely different in person - he looks 20 years older in Downton Abbey than in real life. All of them were a delight to meet - Mr. Carson was the MC of the night and he was great. I think Brit actors for the most part don't really consider themselves to be stars like American actors.

Disappointing side note...….Kate Beckinsale was supposed to play Rosalind Pearson (McConaughey's significant other) in The Gentlemen but had to bow out because of a personal conflict and Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) got the part. Pretty sure I would have liked Kate better in that part. She is a hammer.
