Dear Lord... L. Riley to Texans (please)

Just read a 247sports article about Greg McElroy endorsing Lincoln Riley to Houston Texans for their vacant head-coaching job.
Not to shy away from competition with OU in recruiting, but I would love to see Riley bolt for the NFL this year in particular. With us going head-to-head against OU for numerous big-time prospects down the stretch, removing them from the picture would be a nice consolation prize for damage sustained from extended dead period (no official visits, etc.) following the greatest college football season in history.
Probably a pipe dream as he has shown little interest in NFL suitors previously, but here’s to the young man jumping ship for greener pastures in the league!!

Well, that's a Texas football coach name, if I've ever heard one. Not too worried about the recruits though.

Thank God Greg McElroy has spoken on the issue. I can now move on with my life.

No NFL team wants Rilley. OU fans want him gone.

You already know Caleb would decommit

i would pay him top dollar to be our OC.
He's not going anywhere. OU fans dont want him gone, they just want him to find a way to get a defense.

Why would anyone on planet earth care who Greg McElroy endorses for the Houston Texans head coaching search?

McElroy doesn’t know shite. He’s just throwing a name out there to see if it sticks

General Question - how much negative recruiting do you think is used against coaches whose name is mentioned seemingly every year for NFL vacancies (i.e., L. Riley, J. Harbaugh, etc.)?? Secondly, do you think it is very effective in scaring off recruits from a program??
My thought is that it probably occurs a decent bit, but I would doubt it is very effective in deterring a recruit from attending school where these coaches are.
Specifically related to L. Riley, I would bet that he does make a run at the NFL at some point (seeing how young he is). With the young, offensive-guru head coach becoming the latest trend among NFL franchises, Riley fits this criteria just about perfectly and I venture to guess it’s only a matter of time before he is seeking a new challenge (because sooner-or-later he will tire of beating his head against the “Trying to win a title at OU” proverbial wall”). And frankly, I would think the longer he fails at winning a title in Norman, the more his potential NFL stock would decline (bc it shows he has a ceiling, and the cards are generally stacked in your favor at a program like OU).

The Texans already suck at defense, so he is a good fit to continue that trend.

Sorry I should’ve mentioned McElroy’s name.
The point of this topic has nothing to do with who endorsed Riley to NFL. It’s more about the possibility that he could jump ship to the NFL this year, and if that were to happen I think LSU could significantly capitalize on numerous recruits that they are competing with OU for (Leigh, Byrd, Wheaton, Bryce Foster, and Caleb Williams was seriously considering LSU before committing to OU as well).

We lost williams when joe brady left imo he entertained the thought of our new looking passing game coordinator and when we hired linehan he would rather work with somebody younger and munoz was a big affect in his recruitment

Texans just got rid of a loser, why bring in another one?

Valid point.
But you know how the NFL is, Copy cat league, and the trend now is hiring young offensive-guru type head coaches (which Riley seemed to fit mold perfectly)

Let the negative recruiting begin.
