Anybody use a boomless nozzle?

I have a 15-gal tank with a boomless nozzle that I’ve used for MSM and 2,4d apps in the past on my 1-ac yard. My pump is undersized for the nozzle, so droplets are a little large and the stream is maybe a touch uneven. I’ve just diluted my mix and gone over the area twice. Spray width is 16 feet
I was gifted a nice tow-behind 30 gallon rig with a 5-nozzle boom. It needs a new pump and some plumbing work. Spray width would be about 6 feet. While shopping for a pump, I thought that maybe I should just replace the pump that I use with the boomless nozzle, since it makes such a wider swath. Any thoughts? Am I likely to see much better performance with the boomed, tow-behind rig? I know a boomless nozzle isn’t perfectly ideal for fine turf, but dang is it fast.

Yes. I use a boomless nozzle hooked to my 15 gal sprayer.
Like you, my pump was just horrible. Heavy droplets, poor spray width, etc. I spent the $80 or so for an upgraded pump and it’s awesome. Pretty wide spray pattern (12-15 ft), and very fine atomized spray. I’ve used it to kill very large areas prior to tilling/disking and prepping for seed.
Only issue is I need a bigger tank. The 15 gal doesn’t last very long and I find myself refilling it often.
Why not just plumb in the boomless sprayer tip on the larger tow-behind rig? It likely already has an upgraded pump.

Good question. The boom on the tow behind is about 18-24” off the ground. The boomless nozzle needs to be much higher to achieve the width it’s designed for.
I only use these setups at my house and refilling isn’t too big a hassle, so the extra volume isn’t a major benefit.

I used to use one but I missed way too many spots. I ended up building a boom and I do much better job now. I also took chemical to the face one too many times spraying the yard.
We use them to spray fence rows in the farm regularly though. They have their place for sure but I didn’t like it for the yard

What size pump do you all use???

I use a 60 psig, 2.4 gpm pump and a brass boomless nozzle.
It’s mounted to an aluminum pole mounted in a piece of plywood on the back of my ATV. Nothing fancy, just a simple rigged up sprayer.
The nozzle claims a 16 ft spray pattern. I haven’t measured, but I probably get around there.

How many acres can you spray with your 15 gallon before refilling?

So what did you spray? What chemical?

The only things I’ve sprayed with the boomless nozzle are MSM and 2,4d.
