Will be visiting family in Pineville this weekend and my brother and I are looking for somewhere to play with our two boys (mine is 8, his is 10).

I enjoy both Links on the Bayou and Oakwing. Tamahka Trails in Marksville is in fantastic shape and is a great value.

Links is always a fun round IMO. Tamahka is a really good layout, can be difficult

Nailed it. Can't go wrong with any of these. Links is a unique experience for sure.

Looks like we'll be going either Links or Oakwing.
Who has wider fairways?
I'm asking for my brother.......... and me.

Basically zero trees in play. Some holes have OB on one side and water hazard on other. All elevated greens(I think).
Not sure on wider fairways. Normally it would be The Links, but they hosted the City Championship recently, and they let the rough grow a bit and narrowed down some of the fairways.

Links is the easier course, in my opinion.
Wide fairways. Greens are usually a little softer than the greens at Oakwing. No real trouble off the tee.
I prefer playing Oakwing. GPS in the carts. Greens are faster. Some really challenging tee shots if playing from the tips.

Gotcha
Thanks for all the advice. We booked a tee time at Links.

Played Oakwing on Sunday, and they have it in pretty good shape. Greens were quick and rolling smooth. They normally have the Fairways too thin out there, but right now they have them just right.
The links is fairly wide open other than a few tight spots with water and OB. The links is always in really good shape, but the greens tend to be a little slower.
Both are pretty fun tracks considering the area.

Enjoy your round at Links, but if you have some extra time a quick trip around Bringhurst would probably be fun for the boys at that age.

I was coming to post this. Bringhurst is a 9-hole par 3 course... said to be the oldest par-3 course in the nation.
It also is in pretty darn good shape right now as the virus had it shut down for a while and the crew from Links does the maintenance on it (even though they are a little bit away from each other...both city courses).

What are the tees like these days?

They still have some matts out to hit off of if the weather has been damp (which it has) but there is some natural teeing ground as well. I haven't played in a few weeks but it was nice last time I was out there.

I quit going because of the dirt tees. Yes, that was a long time ago

Also adding that its free to the public.
I played out there Sunday. They had some work to do after the Hurricane but its rolling now. I love that course with the exception of #3. That is my nemesis.

That hole is like 40 yards long
Is it still only open from Thursday-Sunday?

Yeah, with a 6ft drop-off if you hit it over the green. Nothing like laying up on a 40 yard par-3
Yes, only open Thursday to Sunday. I went last Sunday afternoon and there was a decent crowd there.
