I have 4 of the inwall AC-IW and they work great indoors but not so much outdoors. You could try adding an AC-LR indoors which helped me but still not as good as putting an AP outside the exterior wall.
None of the in-wall models are outdoor rated so I'd avoid those.
Take a look at the UniFi FlexHD; it's outdoor rated and might get wife approval of just sitting on a desk/shelf.

Believe the LR are only good with long shots of open area...
