let me first start off by saying this trip isn't for me. it would be for my kids and i just happen to have them this year around thanksgiving so i am looking to do something different.

i am thinking staying on property is the way to go especially on the monorail for convenience purposes.

i've read articles that dw was at capacity over labor day but when i dug into it more, it seemed like that was because they are at a severely reduced capacity levels.

-are wait times less because of this?
-are masks required while walking in the park? i can maybe understand when in closer proximity and on rides that it may be?
-are there any hotels on monorail system that have been updated and "worth" booking at? i know this is subjective and yes, maybe none are truly worth it.
-lasty, is the meal plan something we should buy? i suspect that we will be gone from sun up to sun down and i don't think our hotel room will have a kitchen - nor do i really want to cook while away. thoughts?
- any discount sites to look at for tickets?

haven't made up my mind definitively yet but think this would be something they would enjoy at the ages they are at now. just trying to learn if covid overprecautionary measures will make it less enjoyable?

Depends since you are going around Thanksgiving which is one their busiest periods they might not be.

Yes and they enforce it. The only time you can take them off is if you are eating or drinking, and even then you have to be off to the side and not walking around.

I think the only monorail hotels that are open now are the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian. The Poly is closed until next year.

Meal plans are not currently offered. Also park hours are reduced to 8 or 9’hours per day depending on the park. They may open it back up some by then, not sure. But, you can book dining reservations 60 days out. Character dining/ buffets are shut down Too for now so the restaurants are limited, but still a good selection of options in Epcot.

You've got alot of research to do but I'll start just by answering your questions. My advice is to start digging in heavily to either a Disney specific message board ( DisBoards) and/or spending alot of time researching things here Touring Plans.

Usually yes but Thanksgiving has traditionally been a very big week for the parks, by November they may increase guest capacity but wait times arent solely dependent on how many guests are there. They are loading less people on each attraction and often times, reduce the capacity on attractions. They have also furloughed thousands of workers so there are less employees to handle the guests they do have. That being said, for now, the wait times have been less but alot can/will change between now and Thanksgiving. I would not expect to go to Disney World during one what is one of their busiest weeks of the year and experience low wait times just because of COVID 19 capacity restrictions. Also keep in mind, right now there is no park hopping. Not even for annual passholders.

Yes, at all times unless sitting or standing off to the side eating or drinking and it is heavily enforced.

Personally, I think you can find a better bang for your buck at the deluxe resorts near Epcot. Yacht/Beach Club & Boardwalk

No...don't get the meal plan. If you do splurge and get a onebedroom villa at a DVC resort the full kitchen is great and we use ours ALOT just not for dinner. Mainly for breakfast and sometimes for mid day lunch when we take a swim or nap break but again...with reduced park hours a bid day break right now isnt the best idea.

Undercover Tourist

Not many...but savings are minimal at best. My advice if you want to stay on grounds is to book a package that includes tickets and resort either yourself or by using a Disney specific travel agent.

A good Disney travel agent can advise you as to the best deals you are eligible for, don't cost you anything, help with dining reservations and can make your FP+ if available. A few I can recommend are:

My wife wanted to go bring the kids around the same time, so we booked last week at Coronado Springs. Look on the WDW site, there's deals right now for residents of the surrounding states. It's called "Magic is Here".

Eligibility
This offer is valid for residents of the following states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

"At capacity" right now would be the slowest Thanksgiving week at Disney World ever. I would never suggest going the week of Thanksgiving in a normal year, but I see no reason not to this year.

At all times, and they will remove you and trespass you from the park.

All of the hotels on the monorail are really nice. My family always stays on property with DVC, but the benefits are fewer right now. Lots of hotels in the area have Disney shuttles, and the dining at Disney resorts is extremely scaled down. I would look into what restaurants are available at the resorts you're looking at before making a decision. We went in August, and it was the first time we had ever left property to eat a meal. There simply weren't enough options at our resort due to so many things being closed.

The meal plan is never worth it (especially with kids), but it also isn't available right now.

Not really. If you're a Sam's Club member you can save a little bit on the tickets by purchasing through them. It would have only ended up saving us about $50 for 4 6-day passes, so we just went ahead and bought from Disney. This was very good for us because we had to reschedule our trip 3-4 times and did not have the issues with this that some people did. I don't know that I'll ever buy third party again after this experience.

On the other hand, buying Disney gift cards from Sam's is something I would definitely recommend. We do this every time we go. Sam's sells them for less than a $ for $ value, so you are basically making money on the purchase. If you're staying on property, you can charge things to your room and then head up to the front desk and clear the balance with the gift cards whenever you have time (with the lessened park hours, you will have plenty of time).

Honestly, it was fantastic and the COVID measures made it more enjoyable. People aren't in your personal space in the lines for rides, you never have to wait in line for a character interaction (instead they're doing mini-parades called "character cavalcades" where they all walk by and wave at your kids), the stupid playgrounds are closed, and there aren't large parades either.

The only real negative is there aren't nighttime fireworks shows. The rest made Disney an even better experience than it usually is. Honestly, the masks aren't that big of a deal.

If this is their first time ever going, and you want them to have the full experience, then wait till another time. If you think they would love being able to ride the rides as many times as they want and you want to go without having to worry about booking fastpasses and stuff like that, do it now. Don't wait. It won't be like this again.

I went with my family over Labor Day. Crowds were not as bad as they are full capacity, but wait times for the rides would be about the same. Even though there are less people in line, they socially distance everyone in the line, as well as on the ride. They do not fill up every seat on the rife. Masks are required at ALL TIMES unless you are sitting down and eating. Any other time and someone will tell you to put a mask on. All of the resorts on the monorail are fantastic, but the Contemporary is by far my favorite. Meal plan is a lot of money, but definitely worth it. You pay for all of your meals ahead of time, as well as additional snacks that you can cash in throughout your stay.

1)Wait times are less but ae going up again.
2) masks are strictly enforced. Lots of rules to what masks are ok. must have ear loops, cant have holes, must be 2 layers, cant have an air vent, no gaiters. You really should go to the Disney World website and read the masks rules. also if you take it off during a ride and have a photo pass you will not get your picture nor will anyone in the ride car with you.
3) all hotels on the monorail loop are open but only the DVC side of the Poly. They are offering big room discounts through 12/24 (i think) for states that are close in proximity. I know Mississippi and Louisiana make the list of states. Also a discount on a 4 day ticket package with room.
4) Meal plan is currently non existant along with fast passes. You can book dining reservations at 60 days out. Several places are still not open.

it is a very modified experience right now. no parades, no character meets, only a few character dining experiences, no makeovers, no park hopping. It would really be contingent on what age your kids are and what experiences you are looking for. That being said we have a big family trip planned for February, and i would take my family tomorrow if i could manage the time with all of our extra stuff going on. We have been pre covid so they know they are getting a modified disney trip. If you have any additional questions i am happy to help. I am a Disney planner.

We enjoyed universal studios/islands of adventure wayyyyyyy better than the Disney parks. Express passes and park hopper are a go and there aren't mask police walking around harassing you at every turn if your mask has barely slipped below your nose. The park would've still been better despite the mask stuff .. just a lot more fun and the harry potter worlds were awesome.
