Sometimes the role doesn’t call for a black or Latino or gay person. Putting a gay or black person in Lord of the Rings wouldn’t make any sense to the overall plot in the settings of the story. And good writings/acting will move the audience in a universal way. If you only feel compassion for a character because he/she is the sane race as you, it says a lot about you as a human being.
