This leads credence to some belief that there was a rush to judgment on Wayne Williams (although I don't believe that - I'm convinced Williams did most of the Atlanta child murders for a whole host of reasons) - it's not without precedence in that area.

The FBI and the Justice Dept under Louis Freeh and Janet Reno was a mess in the 90’s.

Meh.Kathy Scruggs had a severe drug problem.What happened to her was probably inevitable.
The Netflix Jewell was all over the board with their timeline.He was already exonerated and wasn't a suspect with the abortion clinic bombing and the whole militia "supporting" Eric Rudolph in NC was pretty much all fiction.
Both were well done but the Netflix version took loads of liberties.

Unfortunately it's not surprising what happened. Someone I know well was forced to retire because the FBI, DEQ, and EPA made a raid that was based on bogus information provided by union organizers. Rather than admit that they screwed up they found a scapegoat. The Advocate and chemical company were happy with the solution too. At least he got paid well rather than put in jail. This is the same time frame as Richard Jewel.

Hearst and Pulitzer rocked yellow journalism tabloid bs in the late 1800s. They would straight make shite up about what the Spanish were doing in Cuba to sell papers and it helped convince people war with Spain was a good idea.

Hearst straight up caused the Spanish-American War. He built up tension between the United States and Spain with his newspaper editorials embellishing Spanish brutality in Cuba. By the time of the incident with the USS Maine, he had the American people in a frenzy.

Did she go back to Habersham? I have some college friends that knew RJ growing up in a small town. The stories are consistent with him being the goofy cop/security guard/I-am-the-law type of guy.

I recommend watching Manhunt Deadly Games on Netflix. It is about the hunt for the actual Olympic bomber, but also includes Jewels story.
