Putney Student Travel

My teenage daughter wants to do the Putney pre-college travel program next summer to Tokyo.
Has anyone here ever dealt with Putney?
It looks like a great company, owned by the governor of Vermont.
It’s three weeks in Japan, taking two college classes (basically art classes), and exploring the country.
It’s $8000.

Friend,
$8000 sounds like an exorbitant sum. A roundtrip to Tokyo from MSY is around $700 right now. You could easily find lodging for under $100 a night. Travel and food inside Japan would probably be another $1000. Sounds like you're paying $4000 extra to fund an art professor's free vacation and pad the governor of Vermont's bank account. I prefer my own adventures, so to pay someone double the actual cost and be stuck with their agenda and restrictions is unappealing to me. She might learn more if she traveled alone also. I did a solo European trip during my college years that was beneficial in gaining a sense of independence.

Pretty sure I'd just take her for half that. 8k seems ridiculous.
