In New Orleans and other cities, it is quite common to see adults riding their bicycles on the sidewalks. However, it is not legal. There are often ordinances that limit the use of sidewalks to pedestrians. Sometimes, small children are allowed to ride their bikes on the sidewalk.

quote:

Local City and Parish Ordinances
In Baton Rouge, there is no exception for small children:
Sec. 11:230. - Riding on sidewalks.

(a) No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk within a business district.

(b) The chief of police is authorized to erect signs on any sidewalk or roadway prohibiting the riding of bicycles thereon by any person and when such signs are in place no person shall disobey the same.

(c) Whenever any person rides a bicycle upon a sidewalk, such person shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give audible signals before overtaking and passing such pedestrian.

(City Code 1951, Title 11, § 230)

Not sure if homie was in a business district, but from the way the code is written, it sure seems like they don't want bicycles on sidewalks.

Hate it for yall, but bikes have every right to be on the road, and in most instances are required to be there. Hitting a cyclist does nothing but prompt me to ride in the middle of the lane to leave no doubt that people in motor vehicles see me.

So you’re saying if it were legal, you would ride on the sidewalk instead?

There’s a lady that’s been riding Bluebonnet Extension lately who I’m waiting for the same to occur to her (hope not though obviously). Just not a smart place to bike. There’s zero shoulder, and too many cars already like to sit next to each other the whole stretch creating a trap.

You’re probably the idiot jerk that flipped me off a while back when the car in front of me in that same stretch swerved abruptly from the right to left lane to avoid a biker taking up 1/4 of the lane, and I quickly followed suit not even coming close to the biker, but there came the angry bird anyway. I grew up riding bikes all over town too, but some situations are simply bikers asking for danger.
