You don't have some right to have a grocery store close to your house.

New Orleans City Councilwoman Cyndi Nguyen apologized on Sunday for comments she said were taken out of context in a story published Sunday in The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate, in which she described a preference among residents of the Lower 9th Ward for “greasy fried chicken” places.
“In the context they were presented, my example of residents enjoying fried chicken and its abundance in the area came off as insensitive, and for that, I apologize,” she said in a statement to neighborhood residents.
Is this what you would call a "Nguyen-Nguyen situation"?

This is such a stupid term. You don't have some right to have a grocery store close to your house.
A right? No, there is no right to it.
But it is an apt description of the situation.
Of course, we all know the reasons it happens.

So, why is it racist to say people like fried chicken and watermelon?

Is it really a food desert if you live 4-5 miles from a store though? Plenty of rural areas are further away from one than that

Used to really enjoy Rallys fries growing up. Now, not so much.

I agree with Councilwoman Nguyen... way too many greasy chicken places in the Lower 9, we need more Yaka Mein Spots.

Its more like 2 miles from large grocery stores, but I get what you're saying. There's some small stores in the area, and it's right in-between the Bywater and Chalmette.
The northern part of the Lower 9th is kinda weird. A bunch of churches but no food places that I recall.
