Ok, so I bought a stag AR and just picked it up. I am brand new to this, so please help me out. Here is what I would like help with:

1. Optics (Red dot)
2. Ammo (.223 for now, will grab 5.56 later)
3. Anything else I may need.

Thanks.

Where to buy? I saw links in the other thread, but not sure I was buying the right stuff and it can't be returned.

I ordered a soft case yesterday. Where is the best place to buy mags and accessories?

Thanks.

The AR thread has been around almost 8 years, you’ve got some catching up to do outfitting that thing.

Not a bad idea to grab a cleaning tool (image from Palmetto State Armory)

As well as a bore snake (also at PSA)

these two items should get you a basic cleaning accomplished. Maybe a bottle of Ballistol to lube up

When you buy your optics, buy a 2 pack of batteries. Just in case you maybe "forget" to turn it off at the end of the day.

I am confused. It says brass and then in the description says FMJ.

What are you confused about exactly?

Brass is referring to the case. FMJ is referring to the bullet being full metal jacket.

That is what I was saying about being new to this. I thought FMJ meant it was a steel casings. I guess it means the bullet is covered by a copper layer. Anyway, that seems kinda expensive. Is it given the times we are in? Would it be wise to buy 1000 rounds?

Everything is marked up 50-100% right now. You used to be able to get work gold for $300/case. That said, if you want to be able to use your rifle in the next year, it’s fine bulk ammunition

As far as a red dot sight, I have the Vortex Strikefire II, and it is a great sight. Think I paid $179.00, and it has a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

Here's a link to their website:
