But look at this "reporting"
quote:

But in the one-week span from Aug. 6 to Friday, the university has reported 29 cases of COVID-19. Of the 348 tests conducted since Aug. 3, more than 8% have been positive.

On Friday alone, the university reported 10 new cases. Of the 348 tests, 160 were performed on students and staff members with the football program. Many of the other tests were conducted on students who were either symptomatic or potentially had contact with symptomatic students.

And the numbers grew only worse over the weekend. Saturday, 3 of 11 tests came back positive, for a 27.3% positive rate. Sunday saw 15 new infections out of only 30 tests.

More than a quarter of Notre Dame's 58

They make no mention that now the only people that are getting tested are people that are exposed or having symptoms, while pointing out the big scary positive rate as if it should matter. 29 out of 348 looks way scarier than 29 out of 12,000.

ETA: Reading even more into the bullshite
quote:

The 8.3% positivity rate among tests reported by Notre Dame so far is greater than the 5% rate the World Health Organization has said states should be under before reopening. It’s also higher than St. Joseph County’s most recent seven-day positivity rate of 7.2%, and the statewide rate of 7.6%.

If policy is to be made on positivity rates, you must test everyone. Not just sick or exposed. Everyone.

Not a single mention of a hospitalization from UNC. They had 125 positive tests. That was the extent of the outbreak. Cancelled all school.

School is not kicking student athletes out of the dorms. In fact, they are a specific exception.

Tuition due 8/17.

Classes moved online 8/17.

I mean if you think they ever had intentions of having in person classes this semester, you’re a fricking idiot.

I agree but in this case, ALL the policies are made on only testing some people, mainly, ones who may be exposed / have symptoms.

So comparing UNC's imperfect number to the CDC's imperfect numbers, is probably ok.

Testing everyone only works if EVERYONE is tested, so you have good comparisons.

It is so disappointing to see this. How can Universities be so ill prepared for this? If I had a child there, i would sue. This is unacceptable. Did UNC even have a plan?

Notre Dame had a plan and is actually trying to stick to it.

From the Article.

quote:

Browne said the infections have included both people who attended the off-campus party and people who were in contact with partygoers. But he said Notre Dame officials believe they can still get the virus under control without canceling in-person classes and sending students home.

“We are confident we will be able to trace the cause if we see numbers going up,” Browne said. “I don’t think it’s unrealistic to go into this with confidence we can do a semester successfully without it getting out of control.”

UNC must be a joke.

This is a GREAT sign for football, because it means the football players won't have to sit in class next to the disgusting frat boys and sorositutes who aren't being tested regularly and aren't practicing safe hygiene.

Theyll never do that as it would completely crush the narrative.

This was my first thought.. This creates your “bubble”.

I just think the Big Ten/PAC12 and national media is constantly going to bring up the # of cases in college towns/states and that’s going to prevent these leagues from playing. Hopefully these players stay negative which is all that really matters when it comes to having a season. Saw that Michigan State tested 205 players/coaches and had zero positives
