Great thread, all eight pages, brings back a lotta memories over four decades(1980 to 2020)

OG Chelsea's was such a great LSU hang out
Smoked a blunt with Afroman while he was performing there. Not after the show or anything. While he was performing. Passed it back and forth between each other for a a good five minutes in front of everyone.

It has been sodomized and bastardized thoroughly, really sad to see what they turned it in to. Had so many great nights at chelsea's

Sports Page-early 80's to late 80's.
Caterie all the time.
Papa Joes-Florida Blvd. by Little John area. Little Saigon area now. Mid to late 80's.
Plank Rd., north of the Airport in Brownsfield area. Mid to late 80's.
And Hootie and the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow, Better than Ezra, and Toad the Wet Sproket at The Varsity in the 90's.
St. Louis Sheiks at The Chimes in the 80's. This was before Tim Hood bought the Varsity.
After that, I graduated, got married, raised kids, and quit running the roads. Plus, I got old and couldn't stay up that late...
You are me is you.
I still just shake my head in wonder at the shows that came through the Varsity in the mid 90s. Caterie ALL the time. Old Chelsea's was ridiculous with the food and music and fun. You left out Dave Matthews Band at the Varsity. Other wise, yeah, awesome shows back then. That triumvirate ruled and were all you needed.
Just to throw another one in, Jimmy Buffet brought his crazy show to the PMAC. That was a fun date.

Fruitcakes tour - great show - nice horn section. I think there was flooding in Baton Rouge at the time. He closed with Louisiana 1927 which was perfect.
Favorites at the Varsity in the 90's:
Warren Zevon, twice. Not crowded at all for the first one. I think he was dating a Louisiana woman so he was in the area. He played solo but I really enjoyed both and watched him from about 10 feet away for the first. Opened with Splendid Isolation, outstanding.
Lucinda Williams kicked off a tour at the Varsity and it was a great concert with an excellent band. Maybe the Car Wheels tour though it seems like it was a couple of years after the album.

I’m pretty sure Ice T performed at The Varsity circa 1995

I can't believe you're gonna do Better Than Ezra like that.
Weren't they more of a 90's band? I recall them having a national charting album in the mid ninety's and then fading away.

Don't know.
I do know Living Colour performed at the Varsity in 1993 and I couldn't make it.
Man, it's just mindblowing the awesome shows the Varsity had in the 90s. Combine that with the still fun Retro dance parties (still going strong from the 80s) and there was no place better. That was probably its glory days by far.

I like how he specifies "the original" Chee Weez as if they're somehow less shitty than the current Chee Weez.

Hootie & the Blowfish came in 94 right as they got hot.
Was one of them shows a band manager wishes he could have moved to PMAC or Centroplex at the last minute. Tickets were originally like $10-15 but when it sold out weeks ahead of the show, they were scalped like crazy, for 10xs that.

John Fred and The Playboys were the GOAT !

Weezer cover band called tWeezer. I usually only saw them at northgate tavern.
I did stand up after one of their shows one night and a drunk biker threw a beer bottle at me and I swatted it down like fricking motumbo.
I ran down the bench to tackle him and their lead singer had chucked a full bottle of jager at him dude was destroyed and got tossed outside to the cops
That was an awesome bar.

Not for nothing. Played rugby with you briefly. This is Guppy, if you can remember that.
Everyone else, I ONLY played rugby with Mikelbr. Didn't play tummy sticks or anything else.
Mikelbr had the best and most creative profanity on the LSU RFC

I know one of the members of that band worked at Zippys, because he used to wait on me all the time. Wish I could have seen them though, as I'm a pretty big Weezer fan!
