What is the oldest news story you can remember watching as a kid

Has to be a major event.
Mine would be the space shuttle blowing up. I actually watched that live when it happened. I think it was in 1986??

Prob the white bronco OJ chase. Although I heard about news stories before then, I don’t remember being glued to the TV watching it unfold prior to that.
OJ was a pretty popular, well liked/respected figure prior to that for more than just football. It be today’s equivalent of a Kirk Herbstreit or Chris Collingsworth on the run.

This is mine as well. I was in 2nd grade when this happened and I just remember our teacher being informed, told the class and she was very upset.
We might have watched the news coverage, I don't really remember, but this is definitely the first big news story I remember.
