Anyone have any experience with building/buying/living in a container home? Looking at a little property that would be cool to do something like that. I know it would be cheaper to buy a travel trailer, but it wouldn't be nearly as cool.

I’m not building a container home but I am wrapping part of my house in dark gray me teal like those pics. I would love to do something like that if I ever bought property in the mountains or wooded area.

I have been very interested in buying/building one for a long time. Hopefully it happens in the next ten years or so.
Everything I have seen it is cheaper to build a stick frame house. It is possible to keep it cheaper on a container home, but those designs usually include no windows cut into the frame and minimal structural changes.
There are several resources for the single use containers in the area and they are reasonably priced.
My biggest concern is dealing with smaller municipalities when it comes to permitting. I don't think they will be impossible, but I am concerned about what it will take to solve their skepticism. Of course that part might be of far less concern than I realize.

Saw a show on Off the Grid where a guy did that.
Dont know where you are located but Ourso Seafood in White Castle is built similar to the arrangement in the first pic. They are located right on LA1 on the north end of town.

you need to know how to torch and weld, and you need lifting equipment. if you can manage those two things you can do it
be extremely careful which containers you buy. The overseas containers have a wood floor that is treated with the most toxic chemicals known to man (so that they don’t accidentally transport animals/plants/insects)

A supplier on the northshore has a truck that can deliver and do reasonable placement.
The single use containers are supposed to cure the chemical problems, but they are from overseas so it is probably a risk that can never be completely removed.

I haven't welded in a long time, but I have access to some folks who can. Same with lifting equipment. My main concerns are the permitting and chemical issues from previous use. I'd also like the container 8'-12' elevation due to potential river flooding.

Just stick build it it’s not quicker or cheeper

If you are looking to go the cheaper route that you can diy over time, Pole barn houses are the way to go imo. You can get the roof up in a day and exterior up not long after that. Then take your time on the interior.
