Get a 10,000-12,000 watt portable generator and an interlock switch installed on your main feed panel. You’ll be able to run everything in the average sized home except the central AC and oven. I just did this in April and I can run three window units at one time along with almost all lights. Turn off window units for a bit to heat up the water heater for showers. Turn off water heater switch then turn the window units back on. Need to wash clothes? Turn off window units and run the washer. Run dryer afterwards. You won’t be able to run everything at once obviously but I think you can deal with almost all your necessities, even if they’re only one at a time, during a temporary power outage. You’ll save THOUSANDS of dollars this way.
