Stovall...1962
Finished 2nd to Terry Baker of The Beavers OSU...one of the most surprising winners ever of the Heisman. Gained fame due to being a 2 sport star. Wasn't even a unanimous All American.
Anyone else that you can state a case for?

And even Luck didn't win it. RGIII won it that season.

Charlie Alexander was better than some that won.
Cecil Collins screwed himself.

TM7 wins it going away without the suspension.
Something like 6 plays that turned the tide of games that year.
The last two weeks he returned a punt for a TD against Arkansas and then again in SEC Championship. He had the "Heisman Moment" right there.
But, he robbed himself.

He was suspended for ONE game that season. After the suspension, he returned to play in 3 of LSU's biggest games (Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia) and had, arguably, his biggest Heisman moments AFTER the suspension (game changing returns vs. Ark. and UGA). He finished 5th in the voting. Well behind numbers 1-3.
The award has ALWAYS been skewed towards offensive players. Mathieu had one of the greatest seasons in LSU history. But his one game suspension had ZERO impact on the likelihood of him winning it. Just to get invited as a defensive player was a accomplishment in and of itself.
Hell, Shu of Nebraska was arguably the best player in 2009, wasn't suspended, and he STILL finished almost 500 votes behind Mark Ingram who wasn't even the SEC's leading rusher, nor did his stats really come close to those of Toby Gerhart who finished second.
Mathieu had NO chance of winning the award with or without the suspension.

Is there something I’m missing about Stovall?
I am Seeing 581 yards from scrimmage and 1 TD in 1962. Did he have a bunch of return yards?
And there were guys with 1000+ yards season and 10+ TDs.
A guy from Alabama had maybe 170 less yards but 15 TDs.

Stovall was a 2 way player so his stats dont show his defensive dominance at safety

Stovall got hosed because it was so close to Cannon winning a couple years earlier, and there was a west coast bias vs the south in those days.

Cecil Collins played a grand total of 3 games before being dismissed by DiNardo, if Satan had been coach he would have never missed a game .

Not a tiger but I do think Colt McCoy got robbed of a heisman.

I'll second that Colt McCoy.
