What always gets me, is the look on Dick Dietz's, the NL catcher, face (3rd pic)

"The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault." Ty Cobb

What's gone under the radar is that Ray Fosse went on to play 42 games in the second half of that season, hitting .297 and winning the AL Gold Glove. I'd always just assumed that he missed the rest of the season.

A season or two later, he fractured a disk in his neck breaking up a Reggie Jackson locker room fight. Was traded back to Cleveland where he caught Eck's no hitter.

It’s been pretty well established that Ty Cobb was an all around horrible person, racist, cruel, sexist, hated by his teammates and family. His only redeeming quality was his baseball ability
