Trying to plan a family trip in October. Taking my wife and two boys (10 and 7).

Any recommendations would be helpful (including N vs S).

We like North. Truckee is a cool little town to walk around in and check out. Why not wait a few months and make it a ski trip? Stay in village at Northstar. You won’t be disappointed.

I lived in Tahoe City some years ago. My favorite place ever. Not far from Squaw Valley

We stayed south Tahoe and had a blast. Going on a chartered fishing trip on the lake was probably my favorite part. I also enjoyed Vikingsholm. There’s a resort there that we were impressed with that we say we will stay at next time, let me see if I can find the name.

Lakeland Village Resort at Heavenly.

Emerald Bay is beautiful. Good hiking and you can rent kayaks and paddle out to an island in the middle. Might be too cold in October.

Love the N. VRBO in or around Tahoe City is best. Kings beach is great rent kayaks go East lots of great boulders . Rent a boat one day. Pick calmest wind day drive to Emerald Bay picnic on beach there. If I could afford $500 a foot I’d live there forever.

My wife and I were there last week. Went to Yosemite, Tahoe and Napa. We stayed in an Airbnb in King’s Beach. We drove around to the south side, stopped at Emerald Bay, Baldwin Beach and several other places. The south side is more commercial and busy, may be something your kids would enjoy. North side was more our style being laid back and less busy. Stopped at Truckee on our way out and it was a cool little town. Wish we would have had longer at Tahoe, some of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. It was great being able to hike and jog and not have a heat stroke. One night it got down to 34 degrees but the afternoon temps were low 70’s. I can’t wait to go back.

Don't know if it would appeal to your boys (or you) but there are bike rentals in the South Lake Tahoe area, several outfits to pick from (at least before the recent unpleasantness). There are paved trails separate from the road. Paved Bike Trails

Truckee is an awesome spot with a lot of recreational stuff to do. Easy drive to ski resorts and to North Lake Tahoe.

My sister lives there and owns Mountain Freak Boutique on the Main strip. Stop in and grab a Truckee Shirt.

I will be there in September for her mountain wedding.
