I now believe LHSAA should go to baseball first in the fall

Baseball has already been playing travel ball and that will make things less of a transition.

When just a few kids get infected, it won’t be seen as a big jolt. When a larger group of football players get it (due to numbers alone and more contact) more people will hit the panic button.

Baseball allows a more seamless transition to the other sports getting to play as well.

I don’t have a dog in the issue between baseball and football. Just makes the most sense to me at this time.

Iowa has been playing high school since june 15th and practicing since june 1st, sure some schools have stopped for 2 weeks because some "players" had contact with a covid case but most are still playing and enjoying it... we need to get back to life and normalcy. A lot of people don't like our governor but she for sure isn't a cuck.

I am being realistic. Iowa having a different Governor doesn’t help Louisiana.

I get what you are saying... we play summer baseball here anyway for some reason, I am pointing out that our governor has gotten plenty of backlash keeping the economy open and starting sports/schools back up, yet most people want to go back to a normal life.

The point is that if one state an figure it out then they can set an example for other states to emulate and improve upon.

That Iowa is having success with their baseball season should cause the LHSAA and similar governing bodies in other states to see how they're handling it and try to apply it to their own situation.

Sadly, the LHSAA, and the state government in Louisiana are entirely on a spectrum that runs from inept to corrupt with no good place to land.

Tough for the kids who lost their spring to possibly also lose their 2021 season. If it is written so in the case the baseball season is cancelled then they are allowed to play in the spring and football loses their season then I could see it happening.
Lots of questions to go along with this proposal though
How does LHSAA handle schools that are online only and how do they set their allowed practice times?

Worst case scenario, baseball could still play in the spring. Football and baseball use different fields. Bigger risk for baseball to just hope things are much different in the spring IMO.

Kids would have to pick which sport to play and that would cause problems. Coaches also coach multiple sports, this couldn't happen with two sports going at the same time.

Be honest. Do you really think our leaders are just going to let the football teams forge ahead regardless of the number of infections? This has zero to do with what people think SHOULD happen.

Well, I would argue that getting to play one of those would be a better alternative than none.

I don't. NCAA's decision will impact high school sports nationwide.

There was talk of FB starting games Oct 1 in LA with no fans. That would cut down on a lot of the travel that occurs outside of district games until the playoffs were to begin. That might be a solution.

Everyone may be forced to adjust, the only option may be to play everything in the Spring.. some schools would have to decide if they would field a baseball team, basketball team or football team... at the bigger schools kids would have to decide which sport to play for the 2021 season... Then the LHSAA would have to see how many teams were available for each sport and make the divisions from there.. It would be better than nothing. Maybe this will pull the private & public schools back together

Think this scenario has already been voted down

I agree
Baseball would be perfect for that time period
Summer baseball and softball has been in full swing and they were playing in late May/early June in Phase 2
Less contact sport and easy to social distance

Then if you have to do spring football instead those baseball players that play both sports wouldn't miss out

Baseball began on time and then was stopped at the game level but do you honestly believe that the above average players stopped throwing and practicing for any true length of time? Asking them to continue straight through and restart a Season after playing all
Summer is pushing the limit from an arm care perspective.. showcase season is in full force at the moment and many of these kids are building and pushing to their top end with the expectation of shutting down come august.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. You can’t pitch year round.

The pitchers that have thrown a lot can limit their innings by choice. I know one that will be going to LSU that does so.

High school baseball coaches are concerned that if they start baseball in the fall and the virus continues to spread at the current pace and the season would have to be stopped there would a chance that they would lose another season. The only way baseball coaches would agree with a fall start is if they are guaranteed if the season is stopped and once sports are able to start again that baseball would get to complete their season

That is a fair compromise (and best option overall for baseball).
