Thinking about finally breaking down and getting the Covid-19 test. Worried about it though since I hear it's painful with them going up your nose. I know some testing sites do a throat test instead of a nose test so I'm thinking that might be a better option.

For those of you who have done it how was it? Was it as bad as I've heard? I've had Sinus issues in the past and have even had Sinus surgery so I'm pretty used to an ENT doctor putting a camera well up my nose. Of course when they do the camera they spray numbing agent in the nose first. If I can handle that would I be able to handle the nose test for Covid-19?

I’ve been around family and close friends often (never more than 6-8 people, besides a 25 person dinner party 3 weeks ago) and no one i know has gotten it or had a single symptom, including my 93 yr old and 91 yr old grandparents. Until I have a reason to take a test, i won’t. Then again, outside of my close group of friends and family, I don’t socialize.

Ask for the rectal test. More accurate and faster turnover.

Why are you getting tested? Do you have all the symptoms?

No point in getting test unless you feel bad... I’ve tested 2-300 people at urgent care with the 15 min rapid test, it is A little less accurate if you’re negative than the PCR test, but I’ve only had one + patient with no symptoms and false positives are less likely.... don’t get tested because you were exposed please unless your work requires it or you feel bad. I saw 68 patients by myself yesterday, 80% or so just wanting asymptomatic testing due to exposure to Covid, and only 5 positive. I’ve been exposed every shift since February and never been tested once

I've had an off and on cough the last few days. Not a constant hacking bronchitis/pneumonia cough (I already had that 2 years ago, lol) but more of just an off and on cough. Been yawning a little bit more than normal as well. I haven't exactly been wearing a mask everywhere and I've gone on 2 trips since mid May so I've been taunting the virus for awhile. It might've finally caught up to me, lol.

You’re a wuss, sound like a millennial.... go waste you’re money but odds are you’ll be negative.... few rapid tests and regular test can take up to a week especially with holiday... in that case you will be recommended to be off work until test shows it’s negative

I have Asthma so my body be default is already defective. I know I have a better chance at a worse outcome if I get it.

It’s a sad comment about the state of this board, that this post sat for over 10 minutes without a single upvote.

Luckily for me I'm still furloughed so I wouldn't miss any work. Mostly hanging out at home anyway.

My kid had the throat swab, said it wasn’t bad. Took two weeks to get the results though. Came back positive. Yay. Only symptoms she had was loss of taste and smell.

I don’t have symptoms, but my work will eventually tell me to get one, probably. They’re paying me to stay home, so if they want me to get one I ain’t gonna argue.

Thank you for the info. I've heard the throat swab is pretty much similar to getting test for strep, did you find that to be accurate? From your child's experience with it do you think the throat swab is less uncomfortable compared to the nasal swab?
