Can any Big Green Egg owners help with this?

Picked up on my fire ring last night and something similar to this happened, but in 5 pieces
It fell apart. It must have had some fractures already is the only thing I can come up with. Is this common, and if so, is there any way to avoid it? I’m going to get another one to replace it, but i just wonder what would cause that. I’ve been very careful not to damage it when cleaning. Hell, I haven’t even got the thing past 500 degrees.

Mine has been broken for awhile. I have no idea when it happened or how. I just keep using it broken.

Most people with broken ones still use them, if they fit together right and snug. 5 pieces is a lot though

Yea, that is weird. Mine hasn’t broken like that yet. Did you reach out to BGE? They might send you a new one for free.
I did a pork butt yesterday for around 8.5 hours and it turned out great. The meat was like butter and delicious.

Seems to me that in this case you have two choices if you want to continue to use the Green Egg Cooker.
1) Buy a new fire ring
2) Build or contract to build a metal support piece that requires no drilling or fastening. Depending on the space allowed for such a device, think of a cradle built into a ring.

I think I’m going to do that today. I was just thinking I did something to cause it, but I cant think what it would have been.

Nothing like pork shoulder low and slow on a pit man. I bet that was tasty.

What wood you use?

They’ll warranty it. You could probably just JB weld it though.

I have a primo xl that did that. Warranty covered it but I had to pay shipping. The replacement they sent has a gap in it to allow for expansion.

Very common. Mines been broken for quite a while, but only in 2 pieces so it still functions fine. Fortunately, BGE has a lifetime warranty, so if you call them they’ll replace it for free.

We’ve had ours for about 10 years and I’ve never removed the fire ring. It gets used on average 3 times per week. Just curious why you needed to remove it?

Bring it to your Dealer.
ETA: you may need to locate your serial number in the dome.

Seriously, pork cooked proficiently is narcotic.

The dome of my egg broke into pieces while trying to replace the gasket...long story. Short answer is the dealer told me it would be covered by warranty if I wasn’t at fault for it breaking. Check with dealer and explain situation. Best case scenario it gets replaced at no charge.

take it to your local dealer and they will replace it......no questions asked.
I accidentally broke my pizza stone once. I took it in and told them that I broke it and they still replaced it for me at not cost.

I think it is a fairly common occurrence. Mine has not broken but I would not replace it if so. The biggest issue I have is small charcoal pieces clogging the air holes.

bailing wire and a masonry drill bit and tie it back together. Then use fireplace refractory cement to fill in the cracks. I did this with an old imperial kamado until it gave up the ghost last year.
