The evolution of the graphite golf shafts has been incredible. The lists below are just my opinions, but I thought it might be fun.

Lifetime Achievement Award -

Aldila HM 40 Gold - The shaft that started it all.

Hall of Fame -

G. Loomis - one of the best feeling shafts ever, just fragile.

UST Proforce 65/75 Gold - One of the all time selling shafts, everybody had to have one.

Grafalloy - The Prolite, Blue and ProLaunch were huge sellers, now a part of Ture Temper with the Hzrdus Series.

True Temper EI 70 - Great driver shaft and very popular in Titleist clubs and aftermarket.

Harrison Shafts - Big splash in Longdrive shafts

Penley Shafts

Best Graphite Driver Shafts -

Matrix TP7 , The first $1000.00 shaft
TT EI 70
Fuji 757
MCA Diamina White Board
MCA Tensi White, Blue and Orange
Oban Kiyoshi White and Devotion 65
Graphite Design AD Series
Penley Tour Light 60
Fugi Rombax 60
Aldila Rogue Silver 130 MSI

Best Fairway Wood Shafts -

Matrix Code 8 - still the best ever and used on tour
Fuji Pro 95 - Just an awesome beast
MCA Diamana - BlueBoard
MCA Tensi Blue 70
True Temper Hzrdus Yelllow 75
Penley Stealth

Best Graphite Hybrid Shafts -

Matrix Altus - Best ever and still used on Tour
Irod Series
Diamana Blue
Oban Kiyoshi Purple
Graphite Design AD series

Best Iron Shafts -

G. Loomis Tours - Davis Love III won a lot of tournaments with Loomis Tour 95 shafts.

Apache Shafts - later became Matrix, used by KJ Choi

UST Recoils

Accra Tours - very underated shafts in performance

UniFiber Steelfiber - Hybrid mix of graphite and steel fibers, but very stable shafts, proven on tour.

Best Graphite Wedge shafts -

UniFiber and KBS lead the pack for me. This area has lagged behind IMO.

These have been some of my favorites in the past and the present. I know that I have left some off the list and you guys can add your thoughts.

I tried some Grafalloy Procustom Graphite stiff shafts in an old 7I Callaway BB head, and I ended up shafting the entire 2-PW set. They are very inexpensive.

Hit the 7I 165-170 with those shafts.

When the first graphite came out in the early 70's they were horrible. Aldila was the first manufacturer I remember and their shafts had about 7* of torque. . .you could bomb it if you happened to square the face; otherwise you'd spend the day on an Easter egg hunt. The HM40 was the first low torque shaft I remember, and when Olazabal won the Masters with it it really took off. The gold paint was a master marketing move on Aldila's part.

If you really want to have some fun see if you can find an old Shakespeare iron with a fiberglass shaft. They made them in the mid 60's and Gary Player ( biggest club ho of all time), played them for a couple of years. They were comparable to hitting a hickory shaft.
