This is consistent with what we discussed yesterday re: kids arriving home from summer camps and HS football players participating in SAC activities at the schools.

Houston coronavirus updates: What you need to know for June 25
9 a.m.
As COVID-19 cases continue to spike in Houston and Texas, leaders of the Texas Medical Center are expected to give an update on the hospital system's capacity levels during a Thursday press conference.
Wednesday marked the single highest single-day increase for new cases statewide, according to the Houston Chronicle's data team. During the one-day period from Tuesday to Wednesday, the statewide total had risen by 4.85 percent, or 5,998 cases, and is now at 129,654 cases. This uptick surpasses the previous day's record increase by more than 800 cases. An additional 39 deaths were reported, bringing the state's COVID-19 death count up to 2,279.
In the Houston region, cases had risen by 5.4 percent, or 1,831 cases, and are now at 35,515 total. Fourteen more deaths were reported; the region's death count is now at 497. Harris County saw a 5.6 percent increase, or 1,365 cases, and is now at 25,786 cases total.
On Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott said the state is facing a "massive outbreak" but that backtracking on reopening would be a last resort. That same day, TMC leaders said in a news release that the hospital system's ICU capacity is becoming "increasingly stretched" and could become overwhelmed. Leaders stressed that the center is seeing a significantly larger number of younger patients and is urging the public to stay home when possible, practice social distancing and personal hygiene and wear a face mask or covering.

Middle schoolers?
Nah.
And to be blunt ... it’s many of the white suburban kiddos who are testing positive now.

Can't be protesting because they have no virus signs up at the protests so the virus just went home while they peacefully tore down monuments, burned cars and looted stores

ICU beds are ALWAYS stretched..ALWAYS. Managing that capacity is what I do with software. These people are full of shite. CA now saying hospitalized people are in and out, not ICU.

Same in Atlanta.
It’s just easier to access and people want to get tested to see if they have it or before they travel/start school.

I know deaths lag behind hospitalizations, but why do they never mention the death trends in these articles? They mention the increase trend of cases, but all they do is list the death number. Seems like that would be important.

I think we will be OK
How about we cool it with the scare tactics for a day or two.
Younger people getting this is like the best thing that can happen. Herd "fricking" Immunity!!!

Houston Chronicle is worse than the Dallas Morning News.
However, the protest are not the cause right?
Texas is testing more right?
The tests are accurate right?
Trust the government right?
Hospitals get paid more for Kung flu patents right?
We know whats going on here right?
Well, some of us do.
I could go on and on.

This is what I've been melting about for two months. How about showing some benchmark data on ICU beds with a fully open economy. Maybe the hospitals are a little better at managing their capacity than the Governors are.

I said it yesterday (and other Houstonians corroborated the same issue in their suburban areas):
Kids are coming home from camps.
One lone person runs a fever; tests positive.
All attendees are subsequently tested; multiple, asymptomatic cases are identified.
Same with the football players.
But these kiddos aren’t being admitted to hospitals (they simply quarantine), so we’re talking about different samples of the population.
It’d be a fascinating discussion, if it wasn’t so maddening.
I don’t blame these affected businesses one lick for being irate.
What a behemoth mess.

Abbott better not turn course and try to please the social media mafia.
Full steam ahead, you cannot hide from this virus.

Are they being hospitalized or just test positive with little to no symptoms....the issue we have here is most everybody in the world is going to get this....if everyone gets it and you arent going to the hospitals overwhelmingly and you are dying there isnt anything to see here

This would be great if true. But, there's no either way unless you can link some.

Was keeping it quiet but since everyone else is sharing, I feel like it is my responsibility to share this PSA: YOU CAN GET COVID-19 MORE THAN ONCE! I had it back in early March and then thought I was invincible after I recovered. Not true. Dont be dumb like me.

How much is hospitalization increasing? I see they reported on deaths but not numbers admitted to the hospital. Those are the numbers to focus on
Posted on 6/25/20 at 10:17 am to EKG
I’d bet a large number of these covid patients probably should not be in the hospital.

The problem with this article is the lack of details. There is no relevant demographics data, just a vague spike.

I hear ya.
It’s not really an article.
It’s one of those, “Here’s the latest this morning” newspaper blurbs.
