Dude, it only takes 1 viral particle to infect a person. The virus replicates inside you. Once infected each individual’s immune response determines how severe their illness gets. 100,000 people infected = 2000- 5000 deaths

Well... kinda. Level of exposure is a huge factor in how extreme the viral infection is. Do you think it’s easier for your immune system to fight off 1 particle or billions?
