I think Juneteenth should be a national holiday.

It basically marks the end of slavery. Every American was now free.

That certainly is something to celebrate, and it really should be celebrated by our country as a whole.

I don't know how popular this opinion will be here with all of the ridiculous race stuff going on, but I really do think it is a worthwhile thing to celebrate as a nation. It's not a "Black holiday". It should be an American holiday.

I’m more anti BLM than anyone but I think acknowledging it is a reasonable actionable item and have no problem with it

I wished I cared as much as you.

I’d be cool.

This post again.

Thank you. You’ve clearly added to the conversation, which wasn’t covered by the 6 other threads with the same topic.

Ok, as long as people stop acting like they are the actual slaves being commemorated.

I agree.

I think most rational thinking people agree that changes need to be made, but those changes also need to be made rationally.

I agree but the name needs to be changed.

Juneteenth sounds like something my one year old would say when trying to count

Should have been a national holiday a long time ago.

Needs a new name though - Juneteenth is a terrible name.

Its my anniversary so Im down with the day off.

On another note, I've now come around to reparations....lets start the negotiations.

One caveat: when you take this money, its a settlement: no more bitching, no more free rides, no more preferred treatment.

Earn it like the rest of us.

No, it should be December 6th. Slavery still existed in the US after Juneteenth.

I'm all for a day off in June. Now we just have to get a day for March and August.

Better weather in June.

Do away with presidents Day.

It’s cold.

You probably don't want it called what it was when I grew up in the 50s.
