Vacuum in place
Wipe in place
Remove and vac
Remove and wipe
Remove and wash off
Or, my impressive technique I invented yesterday - the leaf blower. The echo left them perfectly clean and ready for re-installation.

We just buy a new house when the filter needs changing.

A broom has always worked pretty well for me.

I remove mine and place it in the shower. I then use my wife's favorite hand-held shower head and wash off the dust.

Vacuum in place, occasionally will just give a quick wipe down if I'm in a hurry

Remove, take outside, hose it off, dry, replace

I usually just grab a dirty pair of underwear to wipe it off. It's a pretty return on my window unit propped up with the 2x4.
