Who starts at center this year?

Joe Evans has a shot but he’s inexperienced. I think it comes down to Hines or Liam Shanahan. Hines came back to campus overweight at 350 lbs. Shanahan came in at 304 lbs. These weights are according to LSU’s website. But with us now in the shotgun most of the time I think it will be who can snap the ball the best and knows the calls and protections backwards and forwards. Who y’all think it’ll be?

Sounds like it’s Hines job to lose

Hines will drop what he needs and be fine dude is a beast especially playing @ 320-330

Hines can lose 25 pounds in six weeks. It's his.
Then Joe Evans will start 2021 unless Charles Turner packs on pounds.

Evans looked very quick at DT last year. If he is around 300lb and with his athleticism he has a true shot

Charles Turner's weight is up to 290lbs.

We saw what a big improvement Hines was when he replaced the original backup last year. Snap quality is critical.

If joe Evans can snap it. I would no doubt he gets the spot. Seems like he is getting talked up a lot.

Are you guessing or know as fact?

Rosenthal, Ingram, Hines, Thomas, Deculus
That’s a damn good line. Dec has shown some of the best improvement I’ve ever seen from a tackle.
Shanahan/Bradford/Wire are solid depth.
If Brennan can just make good decisions/distribute and one of the 3 backs can separate, we should contend in the west despite the dreaded even-year schedule.

Definitely Hines. They like him there and he is an excellent lineman overall.

Just a guess
The median weight for centers measured at the nfl combine is 303lbs
Hines is listed at 349.
I don’t know how he’s going to play C that big.
I’d move him back to G opposite of Ingram, assuming one of the other guys gets the snapping down.

Hines will be able to get his weight down during the summer. Unless he just can’t get the job done, I expect him to be the starter. Evans needs a year practicing with the offense to get comfortable with his technique and learn calls/protections. Liam could challenge, but he’s behind the 8 ball just getting here.

sure he is.
Dare Rosenthal was also 6-8 out of high school. He will be 6-5 and 3/4 by 2023 draft.

He has to lose 30lbs in about 80 days
Hope you’re right

It’s goon to be Joe Evans. He’s a good kid who will put the work in required to play C. Hines never seemed like he wanted to play C but he will probably be the starter at RG.

How many tackles have you seen start as a true freshman? I would imagine his base point was above where most tackles are when they get to college he was just forced to play right away and we saw all his flaws on full display every Saturday. He has kept working and improving.

Snapping is easy. It just takes some practice. One month is plenty of time for a guy to become very good snapping the ball. The difficult things at center are making reads and calls, as well as getting into an athletic position once the ball is snapped.

Chasen Hines will inevitably start and he will be very good.
I loved him in 2018 when he played guard. In fact, I though he was our best offensive lineman.
Now, last year, he was held back to make sure he fully rehabilitated his knee. Then after several games, he was switched to center and understudied under Lloyd Cushenberry III, and he looked good the few times I saw him play in mop up duty.
Anyway, he is very smart, very strong, very agile for a big man, and he is also quite a bit bigger relative to Cushenberry. In fact, I think he will be at least as good and probably a little better than Cushenberry was.
In fact, I'm really not worried about the offensive line. As we know Dare Rosenthal can play, Ed Ingram is probably an all SEC quality offensive guard at left guard, Chasen Hines will inevitably be very good, Anthony Bradford, according to Ed O, is our best offensive lineman on the team, and this will be Austin Deculus', who is in the best shape of his life, third year starting at right tackle.
