Disney fans say a popular ride is racist and should be overhauled

Splash Mountain, which is located at three Disney parks across the globe, features characters from the controversial film “Song of the South”

A petition on Change.org that has collected over 21,000 signatures is calling on Disney DIS, 0.79% to overhaul the ride Splash Mountain, which is based on the controversial 1946 Disney film “Song of the South.” The petition suggests that Disney reimagine the ride and use the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog” as inspiration for the new version. On Twitter TWTR, 1.03%, others have suggested reworking the ride and basing it on other Disney animated films, including “Moana” and “The Emperor’s New Groove.”

Disney deserves to be eaten by the mob.

Zero sympathy.

21k is a very low number for a petition I think. Won't happen.

Walt Disney made racist films. The name needs to be taken off all properties and products

People have been pushing this for years now. It may be gaining more traction now I suppose.

Well...guess no one has noticed the Confederate flag being carried around in the Muppets Movie (Bogen County Fair scene)

They'll demand that Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn be burned next.

I’m so fricked. There are pictures of me at 12 years old smiling and enjoying myself in that ride. I should have been using that opportunity to protest systemic racism. Only a matter of time before I’m exposed and lose my job.

Frontier? Sounds racist. Bringing civilization to the savages are you, whitey?

Hall of Presidents needs to go too. It has too many slave owners in it. They might as well just bulldoze all of Frontierland.

90% of the people under 40 who go to Disney parks have never seen Song of the South and have no idea where the characters in Splash Mountain are from.

Harris was a broke arse poor Irish kid when he went to Turnwold Plantation. Southerners didn't treat him too well, either.

He wrote down stories he heard and enjoyed from slaves he hung out with there. The stories don't belittle them. Uncle Remus was portrayed as extremely wise and admirable.

It's the eye dialect that gets people rustled. Harris attempted to document the stories as he heard them.
