I think 1999 is the greatest year in the history of movies, with 1994 being a close second. Just look at the movies that came out in those years:
Also this list isn't exclusive to only good movies, but also to big releases at the time
1994:
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The Crow
The Flintstones
Speed
The Lion King
Forrest Gump
The Mask
Quiz Show
The Shawshank Redemption
Ed Wood
Pulp Fiction
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare
Clerks
The Santa Clause
Dumb and Dumber
1999:
Office Space
The Matrix
Life
eXistenZ
The Mummy
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
Tarzan
Big Daddy
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
American Pie
The Blair Witch Project
Eyes Wide Shut
Lake Placid
Deep Blue Sea
The Iron Giant
The Sixth Sense
American Beauty
Fight Club
Being John Malkovich
American Movie
Dogma
Sleepy Hollow
End of Days
Toy Story 2
Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo
The Green Mile
Man on the Moon
Galaxy Quest
Magnolia

The Green Mile is the only movie from 99 in that list I would bother to rewatch.
94>99 by a mile.
94>99 by a mile.

You have a good argument. But putting films like Tarzan in with that group is diluting it.

I think if you make a claim "this is the best year of movies OF ALL TIME and here's why!!!" and cite fricking big daddy then you already know you're wrong.

Better comedies in 1999, but 1994 is just so strong at the top

There is already a podcast about this Podcast Like It's 1999. Each week they breakdown one movie from 1999.

Not unpopular at all. 99 is often hailed as the best film year, and I agree.

Having lived through 1999, everyone said it was an amazing year for movies at the time. Review after review discussed how the year was a game changer for film as a whole.

Many people are ashamed about openly displaying their ignorance. Your openness is refreshing.

This is a very popular opinion. It's often ranked alongside 1939 as one of the single best years in movie history.
Which is stupid (for me) . Only a handful movies from 99 approach masterpiece status, a couple of which you listed.

Looking back it’s simply impressive the diversity in the type of films on that list compared to what you get today for big box theater releases
Big budget comedies, risky dramatic films, ground breaking sci-fi, cartoons/Pixar, etc

Fincher, PTA, Judge, Mendez and Kevin smith all releasing major movies in their prime in one year is just amazing
