Does anyone in film or tv history have a better redemption arc than Prince Zuko?

Jaime Lannister had the potential, but they completely fricked that up. Feel free to point out a better or comparable redemption.

With Vader, it’s completely self interest with his son. Zuko betrayed his country to do the right thing.

SPOILERS:

Zuko’s arc was pretty damn good.

Goes from hating Aang and always falling on his face is their battles, but his Uncle was always there to pick him back up. I loved his uncle.

And you add in the angle with his father, the Fire Lord, where he’s always trying to seek his father’s approval. A lot of people can relate to that. Then, Zuko ends up be the one to teach the Avatar the fire elemental training. Zuko ended up being one of my favorite characters by the end of the series. It was very well done/told.

“Evil and good are always at war inside you, Zuko. It is your nature; your legacy. But there is a bright side. What happened generations ago can be resolved now by YOU. Because of your legacy, you alone can cleanse the sins of our family and the Fire Nation. Born in you, along with all the strife, is the power to restore balance in the world.”

Best redemption ever.

Not going to argue against Zuko.

I'll honorable mention Faith from Buffy. It's far less intricate in design and obviously less integral to the shoe's story than Zuko's, but the payoff (and much of the journey) is wonderful.

depends on whether you view Piccolo as the son of Demon King Piccolo or his reincarnation.

If he is the son, then his arc isn't great, but if he is the reincarnation...hard to beat that arc.

Just rewatched this w/ my 9 year old and it's hard to beat.

In comparing it to Vader... I think what makes Zuko's more impacting is that it just takes so long to complete the arc and it spans the entire series from the very first episode to the last.

Vader's was great and all, it just happened more rapidly. Zuko's is just more satisfying to watch unfold.

ETA: I hope they do this justice with the live action adaptation. I wonder, if it does well, if they take the adaptation further as the original was initially intended. If so, I wonder if we get an Azula redemption arc.

IMO Vader was never redeemed. You can't be a genocidal murderer and get redemption. He just finally made a good choice at the very very end.

Hermann Göring takes the stand in his trial... "So you know how Hitler died from a suicide capsule and a bullet to the head right before the Russians got to him? I pulled the trigger!"

They've had a handful of post Avatar comic book series. In those Azula is, at best, semi-functional mentally. Still brilliant but insane.

The comics were... okayish.

The problem with an Azula redemption arc is that she has serious mental health issues (which they showed throughout the series) and had a psychotic break. It might be more of a "healing" arc than a redemption one.
