Rapper Trina calls rioters animals, blasts Black Lives Matter

Miami-based rapper Trina is facing backlash for referring to rioters as “animals” and accusing some of them of not caring about the death of George Floyd.

“Keep everybody off the street — these animals off the street — that’re running around in Miami-Dade County acting like they escaped from a zoo,” Trina said Wednesday on the morning show she co-hosts with fellow Miami rapper Trick Daddy. She added that roughly half of the marchers “are not even caring” about Floyd’s death.

Trina also said Black Lives Matter seems to pick and choose which black lives to voice concern about.

“The black lives that matter, right? The same black lives that are taken by the hands of other black people, those matter, too, huh?” she said at one point in the conversation.

“I will not compare your brother —,” Trick Daddy started to say, referring to Trina’s brother, who was murdered as a result of black-on-black violence.

“You ain’t gotta compare it,” Trina responded. “I’m living in the life of it. It’s no comparison; I feel the same way, it’s no exception. A life is a life, period. Period. A life is a life, no matter how it was taken; whether it was a car accident, whether it was from a police officer, whether it was from the hands of another black man.”

Trick Daddy attempted to justify the protests by explaining to Trina that black people aren’t supposed to feel scared when they are approached by police, and many do.

“I’m never scared,” Trina shot back. “I have my license and registration and insurance. I know my rights.”

Trina was immediately criticized on Twitter, specifically for her choice of the word “animals.”

“To refer to your own as 'animals' is so despicable,” author Michael Arceneaux wrote on Twitter. “Thank you for the memories, Trina, but good riddance to you and Black celebrities like you. Y'all are failing us.”

Trina showed no signs of backing down Wednesday, tweeting a defiant message to her over 2 million Twitter followers.

“Some of y’all are plain f---- ignorant and nothing nobody do will help period,” she tweeted.
