Speaking of Norm Macdonald, he probably belongs on the list too. In his case tho, I've heard his issues are mostly with just the upper management, and not with the people he works alongside with, just to clarify...

1) On Motherless Brooklyn a film Norton directed, a fire claimed the life of firefighter Michael Davidson, and Norton's company faces a wrongful death lawsuit. Tenants in the building are also suing Norton for "recklessness, carelessness, and negligence" for bringing flammable equipment into the building, and failing to properly inform the tenants about the fire.
This one has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.
quote:
He's a producer on Lewis & Clark, an HBO miniseries. Director and co-writer has John Curran quit, Norton's version of the script was abandoned, and the miniseries still doesn't have a release date several years after HBO announced it was redeveloping the project.
Bradd Pitt is also a producer, so is Tom Hanks, and so are 4 other guys. Why isn't it also Pitt's fault, since no one has ever indicated Curran quit because of Norton, an actor he's worked with twice before? Norton is not an actor in the show, and Norton never wrote a draft of a shooting script. He was a general "writer" with Curran, with Michelle Ashford having written the scripts being shot when production halted. Sounds like Curran's issue was with Ashford.
quote:
However the Screen Writers Guild refuses to credit him to this day for his girlfriend influenced shenanigans
This suggests you have a deep misunderstanding of how the wga and credits work. Very few people that take a hand at "rewriting" or "punching up" a script have ever or will ever get credit. Norton and Hayek did not demand credit, and his rewrite did not stall or throw off production. Frida is also a film that people tend to like (I don't), so why does this matter? And his girlfriend asked him to do this. Would you say no to 2001 Salma Hayek?
quote:
For Death to Smoochy, Norton got Armani to make him a costume for filming. He then sent the bill to the production company to pay for it
I got nothing for this except that it reeks of non-story. Giving a star actor latitude to have a costume designed is common. I doubt any of those actors don't send the bill to production.
quote:
Norton didn't like the final cut of American History X, so he forced the studio to re-edit it to a 30 min longer version. This caused the director to ask his name be removed, and then took out 40 ads criticizing Norton, even saying Norton was "a narcissistic dilettante who raped the film."
Norton was not a producer and did not have any control over this movie. He did recut it, but he did so when the studio hated the cut. Have you seen any other Tony Kaye movie? You probably also would not have liked the cut. Kaye taking out his frustrations on Norton was true, and misguided.
quote:
6) For Red Dragon, Norton showed up on set to film his scenes with brand-new (and totally unsolicited) script pages that Norton had taken it upon himself to write.
This is one of those rumors that only shows up in reference to articles about the Hulk. And I've seen Red Dragon. It could have used 20 more drafts.
quote:
7) And as far as Hulk goes, he was hired provided any suggestions he made to Penn's screenplay be incorporated into the script. After doing a substantial rewrite of the movie, Marvel executives hated it, and ordered a new one. Marvel so resented Norton's meddling that his role was given to Mark Ruffalo, despite Ed's Hulk being the first movie to introduce through end credits the franchise theme
All you just said was that he did what was in the contract Marvel agreed to, and then Marvel regretted it.
Shite, dude. That's what I said in my post. You could have saved us both some time.

Norm despises all authority, but to his equals or subordinates, I've heard nothing but amazing things about Norm. He'd probably have the Late Show right now if he weren't completely mouthy with executives, but that's why all the great comics love him.

And Norm Macdonald really seems to despise Chris Kataan, so that's all I need to know about that one
Tracy Morgan has said that him and Cheri Oteri are the biggest pricks he's ever met, and he loves pissing all over their legacies.

lulz, it further demonstrates how the rules don't apply to Norton
quote:
Norton never wrote a draft of a shooting script
Because the people you mentioned have much more clout and told him to piss off. Do you understand what the term abandoned means?
quote:
Norton and Hayek did not demand credit
Dude? The Internet, its not that hard
quote:
Much to everyone’s amazement, not least my own, I delivered, thanks to a phalanx of angels who came to my rescue, including Edward Norton, who beautifully rewrote the script several times and appallingly never got credit - Salma Hayek
quote:
at a press junket for “Red Dragon” in 2002, Norton insisted: “I got shafted by the Writers Guild at the last minute, but I wrote the draft that got made.”

Producers work under a budget. Him tossing in an Armani costume, certainly destroys big parts of a budget for a picture like Smoochy, that made $8M with a $50M budget
quote:
The quid pro quo product placement proved tricky. “I could have made Edward a great suit without having to go through millions of phone calls and negotiations,” Ruhm told Premiere magazine. “In the end, I didn’t want him to wear those clothes but . . . well, he did.”
quote:
He did recut it
And his cut made a whopping $8m in the US. There is no need to be a pain in the arse, when that's all you can deliver
quote:

No its not. Norton gave this interview where he specifically says the script for Dragon wasnt good, because it didnt have any "kind of transparency" for him
LINK
An LA Times story had people on the record as to how Norton always tries to take over productions
quote:
Ratner told The Times in 2003. ". . . Edward’s instinct is going to be, ‘I have to take over this film.’ He’s going to try to rescue the film.
quote:
Paramount finally placed him in “The Italian Job” with the threat of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit.
quote:
Marvel . . . . ultimately refusing Norton the power of final cut. The actor-writer refused to promote “Hulk” -- a deafening silence for a tent-pole film like this

Really? Wow, that's even worse than Kataan. At least Kataan got the opportunity to star in a couple of shitty movies...

John Amos
Wanted harder hitting story lines and to stop all the weekly scenes Jimmy saying "Dyn - O- mite"
He was let go over the issues he brought up to the writers, and producers, the show quickly canned at that point.

Didn't they make 4 movies on top of a bunch of TV specials?

Not a career killer but Radar from MASH was supposed to be a real prick to work with day to day. Frank Burns on the other hand was the proverbial nice guy.

Missed that story on Roberts & Weinstein: was that early in her career? Clean bunghole?

And Kristen Bell apparently. Or at the least, a nut-job.
