The data is the data.

I’m sure there are many outliers.
Would need 2 standard deviation brackets to find them.

So 220 average. Some outliers will be 180 and some will be 260 plus. 345 for a high handicapper would be a black swan type outlier.

Anybody average about 220 per drive?

I’m probably right at the average when I consider every tee shot. I can only reach one par 5 at our course and it is fairly short at 454 yards. I can’t reach any of the others which are longer. Sometimes I hit it less than 220 especially if it is Wet, uphill or into a breeze! I rarely hit a ball 250+. When I do, it’s exciting. When I come over the top, it’s in the trees and much shorter than 220.

I mean someones build is going to have a lot to do with the data too. Im around a 12 handicap and average about 275 compared to my cousin who is a scratch player and averages 250. Hes way better than me but Ive got 6 inches and 50 pounds on him

Average 236 carry, 262 total distance, during my last fitting.
Not bad for an old fart!

I'm currently around a 10 handicap, at my best my index was 6.3.

My distances are as follow (driver is total distance, but the others are carry, I have a lot of spin and get no more that 3-4 yards of roll-out with my 3 wood. I typically get around 2 yards with my 5 wood into a green):

Driver: 320 yards
3 Wood: 270 yards
5 Wood: 250 yards
4 Iron: 225 yards
5 Iron: 215 yards
6 Iron: 205 yards
7 Iron: 195 yards
8 Iron: 180 yards
9 Iron: 170 yards
PW: 155 yards
52°: 135 yards
56°: 125 yards
60°: 100 yards

My driver swing speed is 122-125 mph. I have always been able to hit the ball long, I just have never made enough of an effort to get consistent. My short game will be on fire and I can't hit long irons or drive worth a shite; then my long irons and driver will be on and my short game goes to shite.

Great example of my inconsistency was a few years back playing at Kelly Plantation in Destin. My front 9 was 8 over and back 9 I was even (two under after 10, 11, 12, 13), to finish the round at 8 over. And last year I was 3 under after 4 at CCL, then blew up big time on 5, and finished 4 over on the front.

My point is, there are plenty of long hitters out there, and being long off the tee doesn't mean you are a good golfer or a liar. It just means that you are long off the tee.

When I played in High School I could reach (from the tees they had us playing) at least one par 4 per 9 with my driver and every par 5 in 2. That is to say it was possible, not that I actually did it. I have only hit maybe 2-3 par 4 greens off the tee, normally I was all around the green and should have used an iron off the tee.

I remember getting on the green from the tee at Dumas once, then 3 putted for par. It was glorious.

If you have ever played at CCL, I can't use my driver or 3 wood on number 8 unless I am playing from the bears (tips) then I can pull the 3 wood. Otherwise I will roll it into the creek.

My length is probably one of the biggest flaws in my game. It is hard to be on a 340 yard par 4 and say "let me hit the 4i or 5w and give myself a solid 100 yards in" when the devil on the other shoulder is saying "pull the driver, rip it as hard as you can, and get on the green you got this". That normally ends up OB or under a tree and cursing the second impact is made.
