Uh huh. Well, we're in the early-to-mid 1770s when 3/5 of the seats in the governing council of the company were appointed by Parliament and the company was leasing itself back from the government. I'm not going to argue that political influence and monied interests are disjoint, but I don't think the OP was too far off in his characterization.
